I woke up a couple of hours later. Jonah still wasn’t home. I discovered Tristan in his room. He’d gotten home from school a short time before. I went into the kitchen to get a glass of water and figure out dinner. As I was standing there drinking my water, my mind wandered to the life growing in my uterus. I still had no idea how I was going to tell Jonah about this. His kids were still in foster care, the state was still involved (and would continue to be after the kids were home, but who knew for how long), we didn’t even have room in our apartment for a baby.
