chapter-3 The Flood chapter-3 The Floodchapter-3 The Flood THE roadmakers were at work repairing and pitching the lane. A red road-roller was going up and down the lane. Emon sat on the front veranda sofa of his house and watched the road-roller. He was doing that for sometime now. Almost an hour had passed since Mr Barua had left for office. Rajesh had promised to come but had not come yet. Then the gate opened and the post-man came in. Emon’s face brightened and he got up from the sofa and waited for the post-man to come up. “Have you got stamps?” Emon asked when the post-man got to the veranda. “I’ve two foreign stamps for you. First take these letters,” the post-man said. The post-man handed two letters to Emon. Then he took out two stamps from his pocket and gave them to Emon.
