The meeting takes place in the back room of Dmitri's club. Three AM. The time when honest people are asleep and deals get made in shadows.
Ethan arrives with a folder of documents. Blueprints. Schedules. Financial records. Everything stolen from his father's office over the past two weeks.
Dmitri is already there, drinking vodka. Marco Romano sits next to him, looking nervous. The kid is twenty-five, eager to prove himself, stupid enough to think this will end well.
"You're late," Dmitri says.
"I'm careful." Ethan sets the folder on the table. "Everything you asked for. Ocean's shipment schedules for the next month. Security rotations. Client lists. Financial vulnerabilities."
Dmitri opens the folder. Studies the contents. His expression doesn't change but Ethan sees the glint of satisfaction in his eyes.
"This is good. Very detailed."
"I told you I had access to everything."
"The question is whether it's accurate. Or whether you're setting us up." Dmitri's eyes are cold. Calculating. "Your father is not stupid. He could be feeding you false information."
"He's not. He still trusts me. Thinks I'm too weak to be a real threat." Ethan's voice is bitter. "He's wrong."
"We'll see." Dmitri pulls out one page. "This shipment here. Rotterdam to the London docks. Weapons and pharmaceuticals. High value. You say it arrives Thursday night?"
"Yes. Container 847B. Ocean will be there personally."
"And security?"
"Standard protocol. Six men on the ground. Two snipers on the warehouse roof. Ocean's second-in-command Michael will be with him."
"What if we disrupted it?" Marco speaks up. His voice cracks slightly. Nervous. "Not steal the shipment. Just delay it. Cause problems. Make Ocean look incompetent."
Dmitri considers. "How would we do that?"
"Customs tip. Anonymous call about suspicious cargo." Marco is gaining confidence now. "They board the ship. Delay the unloading by hours. Ocean's clients don't get their product on time. They start questioning his reliability."
"That could work," Ethan says. "Ocean's built his reputation on being dependable. Start chipping away at that, people will look elsewhere."
"But it has to be subtle," Dmitri warns. "We're not ready for open war. Not yet. This is about undermining him slowly. Making him look weak."
"How many disruptions before people start talking?" Marco asks.
"Three. Maybe four." Dmitri pours more vodka. "One delay is bad luck. Two is concerning. Three is a pattern. Four is incompetence."
"So we hit multiple shipments," Ethan says. "Different methods. Customs delays. Equipment failures. Traffic accidents blocking the route. Make it look random."
"And while Ocean is scrambling to fix his shipping problems, we move into his territory. Quietly." Dmitri pulls out a map of London. Points to areas marked in red. "These regions. South London docks. East End pharmaceutical distribution. We start servicing his clients. Offer better prices. Better reliability."
"Won't that provoke him?" Marco asks.
"Not if we're careful. We position it as filling a gap. Ocean's shipments are delayed? We happen to have product available. We're helping, not attacking." Dmitri's smile is cold. "By the time he realizes what we're doing, we'll have taken thirty percent of his market share."
Ethan leans forward. "What about the other families? Vincent will notice. He's allied with Ocean."
"Vincent is old. Traditional. He won't move without clear provocation." Dmitri dismisses the concern. "And Marco here is his nephew. If we're smart, we can keep Vincent neutral while we work."
"My uncle doesn't know I'm involved," Marco says quickly. "He'd shut this down if he knew."
"Then make sure he doesn't find out." Dmitri's tone is sharp. "You're our insurance. Vincent won't move against us if his nephew is part of it. The embarrassment alone would keep him neutral."
"What about Ocean's other vulnerabilities?" Ethan pulls out another document. "His real estate holdings. His tech companies. We could go after those too."
"No. Too visible." Dmitri shakes his head. "Those are legitimate businesses. Attacking them brings attention we don't want. Lawyers. Investigations. We stay in the shadows. Focus on the illegal operations where Ocean can't go to the police."
"Smart." Ethan sits back. "So we start with the Rotterdam shipment Thursday. Customs delay. Then what?"
"Then we wait. See how Ocean responds. If he tightens security, we adjust. If he changes routes, we have your inside information to track him." Dmitri taps the folder. "You keep providing intel. We keep disrupting his operations. Slowly. Carefully."
"And Lola?" Ethan's voice goes hard. "When do I get her back?"
"After." Dmitri's tone is flat. "After Ocean is weakened. After he's lost enough face that the other families question his leadership. Then we move on him directly. And when he falls, his wife becomes available."
"She's mine." Ethan's fists clench. "I want that understood. When this is over, Lola is mine to do with as I please."
"You can have her. I don't care about one woman." Dmitri refills their glasses. "But understand something. This takes time. Months maybe. You need patience."
"I've been patient."
"Then be patient longer. Rushing this gets us all killed."
They drink. The vodka burns going down.
"How do we communicate?" Marco asks. "We can't keep meeting like this. Ocean has eyes everywhere."
"Burner phones. Encrypted apps. Dead drops if necessary." Dmitri pulls out three phones. Hands them around. "These are clean. Untraceable. Use them only for this. Nothing else."
Ethan takes his phone. Turns it over in his hands. This is real now. No going back.
"One more thing," Dmitri says. "If this goes wrong. If Ocean discovers what we're doing. We all deny everything. No loyalty between us. Everyone protects themselves first. Understood?"
"Understood," Marco says.
Ethan nods. No loyalty. Fine. He doesn't need loyalty. He just needs Ocean destroyed and Lola back in his control.
"The Rotterdam shipment," Ethan says. "I'll confirm the details Wednesday night. Make sure nothing's changed."
"Good. Marco, you handle the customs tip. Make it anonymous. Professional. Like a concerned citizen." Dmitri stands. "And remember. Small moves. Nothing that screams conspiracy. We're ghosts."
They leave separately. Ethan first, then Marco, then Dmitri.
Ethan drives through empty London streets, adrenaline buzzing through his veins. It's starting. Finally starting.
Ocean thinks he's won. Thinks he can marry Lola and humiliate his son and face no consequences.
He's wrong.
In a few weeks, Ocean's business will be crumbling. His reputation damaged. His position questioned.
And when he's weak enough, when the other families have lost faith...
That's when Ethan will strike. Will take everything. The business. The power. The respect.
And Lola.
Especially Lola.
She needs to learn what happens when you betray him. When you let his father interfere. When you think you can escape.
She'll learn. Slowly. Painfully.
Ethan smiles as he drives. His father created this situation. Chose her over his own son.
Now they'll both pay for it.
The game is beginning.
And Ocean doesn't even know he's playing yet.
