His eyes rolled in annoyance as he took in the tone of my voice. What? This was the first time I ever saw Zephyr rolling his eyes in annoyance.
"Our families are having dinner together tonight", He said,d, looking everywhere but at me. Of course! I remember this day when our families met for the first time, I got so nervous and excited at the idea that I only replied.
'Oh really!? I had no idea about that. Thanks for telling me hehe. I appreciate it How embarrassing now that I think about it.
Sure, not every part of me was ruined by him. I had my own stupidity too. But it wasn't going to happen this time.
"So what?" the way his eyebrows rose. I knew I hit some nerve in him, and the scoff that ghosted his lips was the confirmation. He was taken by surprise.
"So now you are getting in the car with me so we can leave together for your house. As per your family instructions." He turned on his heel before getting inside the car, not hearing my response.
Egoistic much.
I got inside the car before waving bye to Melissa whose jaw hung in the air. She will tease me about it in the morning just like how she did back then.
The car ride was silent, and I did not dare try to look at him, but I thought I saw him stealing glances at me through the corner of my eye.
My house stood before us and a smile crept on my lips. It has been a while since I last saw my house. The maids bowed before us as we made our way inside, keeping a safe distance between us.
My father was the soon-to-be-retired Alpha of Nightfall Pack, and though my father and Zephyr's father were close friends, our families had never met each other before. This was the first time we were meeting according to the present time.
The doors of the dining hall opened, and we were greeted by Zephyr and my parents, who turned their attention to us.
"Aw. They look so good together," Georgina said. Zephyr's mother said. Her sapphire eyes glittered with admiration and warmth but she was faking it. I knew too well.
Georgina always disliked me, and so did Zephyr's father, Micheal. They thought I was too dull for a girl my age. It only made sense Zephyr hated me for the same reason.
I sat between my parents and a smile ghosted my lips. My parents loved me; sure, they did, and I did too. But my siblings had other things my parents could feel more proud of. I was the youngest of my two siblings. My elder brother was soon to take over the Aloha position of the pack, and my elder sister was another pack's Luna. Judging by this period of time, she must be carrying their pack's heir.
My parents always bragged about my siblings about how responsible and successful they were compared to me. It always irked me.
"Children, How do you both feel about each other?" My mother, Lucia asked, her eyes twitching between me and Zephyr.
So they already knew I was bound to mate with him. The look in their eyes said so. I waited for Zephyr to reply first which he gladly did.
"We feel okay. Aurora is sweet and... lovely," Lies. he said while gritting his teeth and, as expected—the same old response.
"I don't like Zephyr Handerson by any means. He is too self-centred and arrogant that it makes my blood boil." All eyes were on me. Wide and shocked.
Though I felt my insides burn, I refused to live that same broken puppet life. This was a second chance, after all.
"What... did you just say?"
Zephyr's eyes filled with rage and anger as he shot daggers into my soul. To be honest, it felt a bit satisfying and amusing. I grinned leaning towards him.
"I said that you're an arrogant, self-centred jerk who always prioritizes your own interests, and your narcissistic behaviour is not only annoying but also toxic and embarrassing."
Thud!
He slammed his fists on the table, standing from his seat; everyone flinched, including me, but I remained cool. Yes, just keep on going, Rory.
"Do you have a death wish?" He said. His knuckles turned white due to the force he put on them. I also stood near him.
"Cute. You think you're intimidating, but in reality, you're just loud. A nuisance to my ears—" He cut me off by grabbing my wrists and taking me out of the hall.
I tried to free myself from his strong grasp but failed. He was the stronger one obviously. Finally, he let go of my wrist, staring right into my eyes with his red ones.
"You got guts to say that, I must say," He stepped close to her, bending down to her level, he said. "But look the mouse has roared. I wonder where was this confidence hiding all along"
A grin made its way to his lips and that was the first ever time I'd seen that on his face. If I was still living that pathetic life, I would've been on cloud nine. But right now it only raged and burnt my insides with anger.
""I deserve respect and I won't tolerate your sarcasm. You're just mad because I'm not afraid of you anymore"
I managed to say that with the last bit of confidence in me. Where am I getting this courage from? His eyes darkened as he leaned closer to my face.
"Someone as low and cheap as you will never be worthy of my respect"
My eyes blazed with a fit of fierce anger, my face reddening as I struggled to contain the rage building inside her. The hurt etched on my face, deepened. My lips trembled as I fought to hold back tears. The words cut deep, slicing through my heart, leaving me feeling broken and vulnerable.
I couldn't let him define me and get to me again. I raised my hand, slapping him across the face with a resounding c***k. The sound echoed through the air, a stark contrast to the stunned silence that followed.
My eyes widened as I stared at him. His sapphire eyes filled with rage as he glared at me.
Did I just slap Zephyr Handerson?
