CHAPTER 004

920 Words
As the slap resonated through the air, he glared at me with a fierce intensity, his eyes blazed with anger and humiliation. I stood frozen, my hand still raised in the air, my eyes locked on his as if mesmerized by the fury I had unleashed. Oh no! What have I done!? My legs shook with fear as he took a step close and I took a step back. But before he could retaliate or utter a word, the sound of approaching footsteps broke the spell. "Zephyr. It's getting dark, we should head back home" His mother called. The interruption was like a damper on the explosive situation. He turned abruptly, his face still twisted in anger, and brushed past me, his shoulder knocking against mine as he strode away. I gulped as my eyes welled up with tears. I watched him walk away, feeling a mix of relief and regret. Why can't he act normal around me? The next morning, I walked through the school hallway, my eyes scanning the crowded corridors. It still feels like a dream to be here again. I spotted Melissa, waiting by our lockers. "Hey, Rory! What's up?" Melissa asked, eyeing my outfit. "You look amazing today!" I smiled, feeling a sense of confidence I hadn't experienced before. I put in some extra effort to my clothes today and it surprised me how my clothes were so plain and colorless. I was a little too simple. "Thanks, Mel. Just trying something new." I called her by the nickname I gave to her. She smiled locking arms with me. I loved how I got to see Melissa again, back then I couldn't live without her and I remember not eating for days when we got separated. As we chatted, the bell rang, signaling the start of class. Melissa and I headed to our first period, chatting about every tiny thing. Just like how we used to. My eyes locked onto Zephyr's. For a moment I thought J saw a glimpse of amusement in his eyes but it was quickly hidden by his usual icy glare. As I walked, I couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. I feel alot powerful and confident from before. Zephyr had no idea what was coming. And neither did anyone else. I had to take my revenge from him. As soon as Mrs. Jenkins left the classroom, the room erupted into chatter and excitement. Melissa turned to me with a huge grin on her face. "Oh my gosh, Rory, it's finally happening! The Harvest Moon Celebration is just around the corner!" Of course. The Harvest Moon Celebration is an annual tradition that marks the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox. Unfortunately, the Harvest Moon Celebration is also when the Alpha announces their official mate. 1 month to be announced as his mate. Emily, a classmate, turned to us with a mischievous grin. "Hey, guys! I'm calling it now: Aurora is going to be the Luna!" The class burst into cheers and applause, with everyone teasing me and Zephyr. Melissa jumped up from her seat, squealing with excitement. "Oh my gosh, Rory! You're going to be the queen of the pack!" Yeah right. The queen. The queen who was humiliated and insulted by his own mate. The queen who had no right to play her part in the pack. The queen who was ordered to not leave her room until her mate asked her to. Such a pathetic queen. The teasing continued, with everyone asking Zephyr if he was ready to settle down and asking me if I was ready to take on the role of Luna. Zephyr's friends joked about how he'd have to start behaving himself now that he had a mate. They were too sure that I was his destined mate. Zephyr looked bored and stared across the room at some point. His eyes held no interest or excitement. The same expression he gave back then. I was convinced that he knew I was going to be his mate. "Hey! How many pups are you two going to have?" Melissa asked, making everyone laugh. A lump formed in my throat ad Zephyr stared back at me with hatred in his eyes. Even though he sat on the seat infront of me. His eyes pierced into my soul as if he was just inches away from me. No one had any idea what had truly happened between Zephyr and me. They didn’t know what I went through as his Luna. They were unaware of the depth of his disgust for me. And they did not know that I was about to make his life a living hell. Everyone laughed feeling amused by the topic of the conversation. But I didn't feel like laughing. The memories of my past life still lingered, and the thought of being tied to Zephyr again made my stomach twist with anxiety. I forced a smile, trying to blend in with the excitement. "I'm sure it'll be a great celebration," I said, trying to sound enthusiastic. Just then, the school's principal, Mr. Blackwood, walked into the classroom. "Aurora, may I have a word with you?" he asked, his expression serious. I exchanged a worried glance with Melissa before getting up from my seat. My eyes unconsciously turned towards Zephyr who was already looking at me. "What's going on, Mr. Blackwood?" I asked, trying to sound calm. Mr. Thompson's eyes seemed to bore into mine. "It's about your...family. There's someone here to see you."
