CHAPTER 39 Hal When he called out a sleepy yes in answer to a knock on his chamber door, his father was the last person he had expected to see. Or, indeed, wished to see. He sat up higher against the pillows, trying to collect himself, still sleep addled. He shook his head. ‘What can I do for you, Papa?’ Noah cleared his throat. ‘I hope you slept well. I’m sure you were in need of it. Just as I was.’ Hal narrowed his eyes. What on earth did he want? ‘I did indeed. Though you woke me.
