36 GABRIELA “She’s going to eat the goddamned bouquet.” My papá’s tone was fierce, but the corners of his mouth turned up. “Vida!” I hollered, lifting the skirts of my wedding gown and running over to where our pet nuisance was nibbling at the dahlia leaves Lorenzo put into the main bouquet.
