Chapter 3

1106 Words
It’s been almost four hours since we've been out shopping. Ten boutiques down and a thousand dresses tried on, I am not even exaggerating. “Ugh, why don’t they have nice dresses here?” She asked as she took off the dress. Was she expecting an answer from me? I rolled my eyes, I was beyond tired. This is why I didn’t want to go shopping with her. She’s every clothing store nightmare because she wouldn’t just take off the clothes but would also say the nastiest things before stomping out. “You don’t like them?,” I asked, like I didn’t just hear her loud and clear a few seconds ago. She sighed, “it’s horrible, everything is horrible” she said, screaming, as she tossed the dresses on the floor. I was at the brink of telling her how crazy she sounded, and how blind she was for not seeing how gorgeous she looked. Anyway, what do I really know about fashion though? I should probably mind my business. I bent down and started picking up the dresses she tossed on the floor, one after the other. My mind was full of imagination of what was possibly going through the minds of the customer service representatives. They would probably be wondering what the fuss was all about because she looked so stunning in every dress she put on. After successfully arranging the dresses in a pile, I stood up and finally broke the silence in the room. “ so what are you going to do?” I asked in the softest tone possible. “Another boutique obviously” she said with a disdainful look on her face as she walked past me. She led the way out of the store. I’m sure she thought she was the queen bee. My frustration tripled when a car splashed a puddle of water on me. I cussed the driver out, but I was already drenched, and it honestly didn’t make me feel better. I probably already hissed like a million times on this day and the hisses kept getting longer after each one. At this point, I wanted the day to be over and done with. I was almost at my breaking point. My eyes were filled with tears, but none dropped though and maybe that was why my friend paid no mind to me. We got to La gossip haul, I was already on the second foot when I heard my phone ring “shine bright like a diamond…” it rang at the loudest volume, shifting everyone’s gaze to me. I groaned in frustration as I hurriedly walked in. I was so shy because it was like someone shouted “all eyes on her.” I kept thinking of how it was ringing in the first place. This morning it was on vibration, so how did it switch to the ringing mode? I should’ve checked before leaving the house. Why did I even come out with the phone to begin with? I let out a sigh. “ This place is so busy, God I hate shopping in a busy place” she said in a condescending tone, like somehow that makes the store automatically filled with dirt. I ignored her comment and paid no mind to her. I just continued walking in a straight line while humming the chorus of summertime sadness by Lana Del Rey. We got to the clothing rack she wanted to pick from, and I stopped behind her to see some dresses when I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was Francesca calling my attention. “I’ve been talking to you, why are you not answering?” she asked in a mean and disrespectful manner. There was no way she was talking to me in that way, so I paid no mind to her again. I continued admiring the pink dress two steps away from her. It was incredibly gorgeous. I had already gotten a dress, but I was contemplating getting the pink dress as well when she tapped my shoulder the second time. “I asked if this dress would look good on me” she said almost aloud, and it dragged the attention of two customers on the same row as us. I still didn’t give a reply. I only stared blankly as I kept thinking of what to actually do; do I say my piece or play along to her madness? She hissed and said “have you turned into a mute or something.” It was in the most condescending manner anyone had ever spoken to me. I chose the option of saying my piece to the self-acclaimed queen bee. “Don’t ever talk to me in such a tone ever again” I said as she looked at me in shock. I knew she was surprised, but I didn’t care because I already had it up to my head and there was no way I was leaving without telling her how I felt. “ You’re not allowed to speak to me in that way. Don’t forget I’m the one doing you a favour here, I already picked an outfit out for myself from the second store we visited” I continued to pour out my heart. She stood there looking like she had seen a ghost. If I were her, I probably would’ve been shocked as well. I was filled to the brim and all I could do was let it all out. At this point, half of the store was already staring at us as we were creating a scene. Well, maybe not half, but we had eyes on us regardless. “ Look, this is mine. We’ve been looking for something for you for hours, and you’re treating me like it is you doing me a favour. Girl, I am exhausted from following you around” I said as I arranged my shopping bag. She was breathing loudly through her mouth. I’m sure she had a million questions pulsing through her veins. “Shine bright like a diamond…” my phone rang, and I picked up, “hello?” I said, almost raising my voice. “Miss Sofia, why aren’t you here yet?” It was the same lady from the early hours of today. I wasn’t ready for all these things now. “Can I call you later?” I asked as she sighed. “Sofia your father is dying” she said as sadness filled her voice. My heart sank inside my stomach, I couldn’t keep the tears from streaming down my face as I fell in shock. My father was dying.
