As I turned to face the other side of my room, a ray of sunlight shone on my face. I lay down already half awake, wondering how the sunlight snuck passed my window blind.
I was awake nonetheless, so it wasn’t much of a bother. I eventually stood up, then decided to do a few stretches when I heard two loud bangs on my door.
The bangs were so loud, loud enough to cause a heart attack if I were to say.
“It better not be another disturbance from people I don’t know” I muttered, then reached for the door.
The little frown I had on my face instantly turned into a large smile. “Francesca,” I screamed in surprise. I wasn’t expecting to see her until the party we had to attend tonight at La Rose club.
She grinned cheek-to-cheek as she walked past me without waiting for an invitation to come inside my apartment, typical Francesca.
I laughed awkwardly and shaked my head as I walked right behind her till she got to my room. She was a regular guest so she knew her way around my place.
In fact, she stopped by the kitchen to get a glass of juice before finally heading to the room.
“Wow, this tastes so good!” She said after taking a sip of the juice. She started looking at the glass as if trying to know the content of the juice. Such a funny girl.
“ Remind me to get the name of this drink before I leave. A girl wouldn’t mind having this every day”she said, as she chuckled.
I left the chair I was seated, and moved to the bed where she sat, and laid right next to her. “Okay her royal highness,” I said laughing, finally giving her a response.
“ Girl, I’ve been at your door for the past twenty minutes. Why didn’t you open up? ” She said this time, fixing her gaze on me.
I was perplexed and gave a long thought before finally speaking. “Did you say twenty minutes?” I asked, staring at her with my eyebrows raised, and my eyes widened in surprise.
“ Girl, don’t play with me. I thought you were ignoring me or something; I called several times, but you didn’t answer your calls. I even paused for a while to scan my mind for any issue that might’ve caused the attitude ” she said, still staring at me.
I could see her eyes were teary, but I was still surprised by her story, so I reached for my phone and, truly, she had already called a ridiculous amount of time.
I gasped in the utmost shock at how much she called, a whole one hundred and two missed calls. Was I with her kidney or something? This girl never ceased to amaze me.
“You know there is absolutely no way I would see your calls and deliberately ignore them. I was deep asleep when all these were going on.” I said with a sorry look on my face while rubbing her laps
“Sleep? Who sleeps like a log of wood at 12:30pm? ” She asked, obviously not fully convinced by my very true story.
I was almost tongue-tied because she wasn’t even ready to listen to what I had to say, so how was she going to believe a word that came out of my mouth?
“My sleep was cut short for hours” I said, obviously exaggerating what had transpired earlier. “You know how I get when I don’t sleep to my satisfaction”, I continued, finally relieving my gaze from her.
She nods like she was in support probably to just close the case. Then she wandered off to my closet looking really focused, I knew she was looking for something.
I saw her go through my clothes with a straight face and when she was finally done, she shook her head in displeasure.
She turned to me as she broke her silence, “Sofia, I have nothing to wear” she said, making a funny face like she was about to cry. I knew she wasn’t, she was only trying to be cute.
“I thought I could borrow a nice dress of yours, but there’s nothing in your closet that catches my fancy” she said, making her dissatisfaction known without mincing words.
“You literally go shopping almost every day, so why don’t you have something nice to wear?” I asked innocently, but who was I kidding? I knew Francesca and she was insatiable when it came to fashion. You just can’t please her.
She took a seat on the bed and immediately reached for the glass of juice she had remained earlier. I thought she had finished it before. Maybe she didn’t like it as much as she claimed, or she was probably savoring the taste.
It was after she succeeded in her mission of emptying the glass that she screamed at the top of her lungs “we’re going shopping!”
“ No, I’ll figure out something to wear. I’ve just not had time to find anything. I’m good, my love,” I replied immediately with a smile.
“You’re being silly my dear” she said bluntly, while staring at me.
I knew where this conversation was going, and I wasn’t even ready to go further. “I’m not going,” I said once more.
The drama I’ve been experiencing since the beginning of the day made me forget that I had not taken a shower. So I entered the bathroom to get myself clean.
It didn’t take me a long while to get clean and dressed and, in the course of the whole activity going down, my friend was watching videos on her phone and paying no mind to me. All I heard were laughters and comments.
She noticed I was done dressing up, then she pulled me to the bed aggressively, and we started a tug-of-war in which she overpowered me, “you’re going.” I didn’t say anything in objection.
She dragged me out of my appointment and that was it. I was going shopping.
