CHAPTER 1.5

764 Words
I let my body fight to the surface and sure enough, when I surfaced, three men were laughing by the edge of the pool. My heart caught in my throat. This was turning out to be the worst day. Of my life. It could have been anyone else, any group of wolves, but the moon goddess was a cruel thing. She just had to make me encounter the worst of them. It was Beta Holloway and his enforcers. I didn’t know the names of the other two, but Beta Holloway being with them told me enough about that. When my head burst out of the water, they all turned to look at me and their shock turned into amazement, and I watched the expression turn to a cruel sneer with dread building in my chest. “Well, well, well. If it isn’t Violet Harpsichord. What are you doing here b***h?” I gave him no reply and watched in horror as he registered that my clothes were on the bank and that I was naked in the water. “Well, if it isn’t your lucky day, Harpsichord. I'm sure you have some stress all pent-up in that w***e body of yours. My boys and I can help relieve it. Can't we boys?” The men behind laughed, and I felt my heart threaten to leap out of my chest. He was going to r**e me. Oh goddess. “No, thank you, Beta Holloway. I’m fine thank you.” “b***h, you think that was a suggestion? You either come out of the water yourself, or we drag you out. And if you let us drag you out, it will be so much worse than if you come out by yourself. So, what is it going to be, huh? Little b***h?” I contemplated my options and began to laugh. Go get r***d willingly or allow myself to be roughed up before I got r***d. A wealth of options, huh? “What’s so f*****g funny b***h?” Maybe it was the fact that the one place I found safety in would be desecrated by these f*****g cruel people. I had stopped asking what I did to deserve this a long time ago, but that was okay. I had to learn the hard way that you didn’t have to do anything for people to be cruel to you. Sometimes, people were just evil bastards who found joy in tormenting others. for people to be cruel to you. Sometimes, people were just evil bastards who found joy in tormenting others. It sounds funny to say it had nothing to do with you when you were the one on the receiving end of their evil, but it was just the truth. If you tried to find justifications, you were just going to get depressed. As I was trying to decide on what to do, three of them froze. Beta Holloway looked like he was caught in the headlights, and through his body's language, I realized what was happening; someone mind linked to him was telling him something. With the way he froze, it couldn’t be anything good. “We must leave right now! You!” He pointed a trembling finger at me. “Get dressed now. We must go and if we leave you to come after us, you’re going to slow us down.” I came out of the water, and I knew things were serious when none of them leered at me or made any comments about my body. I quickly threw my gown on and the moment I was dressed, Beta Halloway threw me over his body and began to run. The speed with which they ran was exhilarating. It was ironic how this was the only time I would get to experience what having a wolf might have done for me. In five minutes, we were in front of the pack house and there were people on horses surrounding our wolves. Beta Halloway went with me to the front of the line and when Alpha Gideon saw me, he snarled and pulled me away from Beta Halloway. “You can take this worthless runt away if you will spare us!” The man on the horse spoke, and his voice was a thing from nightmares; deep, rough and absent of warmth. “You will give up one of yours to save the rest?” “She’s not one of us. She's a useless wolf less runt we pitied and have taken care of.” “If that is your final say, I accept.”
