It was gone two by the time we got home that afternoon to find Brad’s ute parked in Doris’s driveway, the driver’s side door open and the radio blaring. We stood for a moment in my front garden and exchanged a glance. ‘I wish tradies wouldn’t do that with their radios,’ I said. ‘Agreed.’ She gave me a wry smile. ‘Must be driving Cynthia nuts.’ I didn’t enjoy telling her that the racket had been driving me nuts as well. ‘I better get rid of Brad, then.’ She marched off, and I went inside.
