We stayed put for Thanksgiving, not wanting to travel on the busiest weekend of the year. When I explained things to my dad in Fort Wayne, he understood. He said he and Lisa, his second wife, would miss me, but that at least my sister Ellen and her family would be there. “We just hope you’ll make it home for Christmas,” he said.
