9April 2000 We finished with the rows, the planting—peas, green beans, lettuce, scallions, carrots, tomatoes, zucchini. It took us the rest of March and a few days into April . . . and by us I mean me, mostly. Evelyn was working on putting together a design for the second bedroom. Not that our bedroom was finished yet, but I didn't mind. Working on the second bedroom made her happy, and I didn't mind sleeping on the couch or the air mattress. I'd just finished the garden today, starting before the sun had even come up, and by just before sunset I was watering, and that was that—that was our garden for the year.
