20June,2008 Our family had grown quite a bit since our first Christmas with Mickey. We'd adopted Lottie when she was six—we were hesitant, in a way, to adopt someone of that age simply because the year we adopted her was the same year that Mickey turned six. In the end, it didn't seem to matter—Mickey was fine with it. He was excited to have a "twin." Never mind that he was blonde and blue eyed and she had wild black hair and brown eyes: that was his twin. It worked out perfectly in the end; they became each other's best friends. It went better than either Evelyn or I could have expected. Of course, they bickered over every little thing, but that's all it was: just bickering. They'd snip at each other and then be over it the next second, be back to playing and laughing and making messes.
