If she didn’t know any better, she might have thought her house was just down the coast a bit. The thought filled her with longing. She missed her parents and her house so much. She even missed the work she had to do around the mill. She missed all of it: the sky over her head, the sound of the creek next to the house, the wind through the trees surrounding their land. All of it. She realized she was crying and couldn’t remember when she started. It felt like she should have been crying for days now. It was the only response that made sense.
