Hoyal pulled away from Assa and took her hand. They walked towards a cave entrance. The dragons parted for them, their shuffling noises mixing with their rasping breath. Assa saw thin curls of smoke rise from their nostrils. She smelled burning, like someone had put flame to piles of paper. In the cave, a soft light flooded everything. Assa heard sounds coming from far inside, voices engaging in conversation. She recognized some of those voices. She looked up at Hoyal, who smiled down at her. Yes, said Hoyal, it’s true. Go on. Assa released Hoyal’s hand and ran to the sounds. She found a spacious cavern at the end of a rocky hall. Dragons roosted up near the ceiling and looked down on a table.
