The dragon turned and stepped deeper into the forest. It dropped a couple of lumps from its hind end as it walked. Assa followed the dragon, carefully stepping around its leavings, and keeping up as best she could. Now that the dragon had refused to dispatch Assa, Assa felt as though she wanted to be as close to the dragon as possible. Its tail swung back and forth behind it. A couple of times it extended its wings as far as the surrounding foliage would allow and shook them. Did it want to fly? Maybe it couldn’t fly anymore? The dragon’s steps were plodding and heavy. It broke twigs as it went, sending up a cacophony of noisy cracks, snaps, and pops. Birds in the forest rose up from their perches and scattered to the sky.
