It is sometime around midnight and the city remains alive and vibrant. All the commercial buildings on this street are still open and people are walking in and out of various places, making chatter on the street and, being blissfully ignorant. A young, Omega wolf is walking down this street, heading to his car with a beautiful girl in his arm. She doesn't know what he is.
"Where are we going?", she asks in between light giggles as they approach his car.
"I told you, it's a surprise.", he replies playfully. When they arrive at his car, he opens her door for her and lets her get seated before proceeding to enter the driver's side. He's talking to her as he starts the engine;
"You have to wear the blindfold or you'd probably guess where we're headed before we get there". She excitedly puts on the blindfold as they hit the road. Some smooth Rn'B music is playing from the radio and at one point their fingers intertwine and their joint hands rest gently on her thigh. Thirty minutes pass by on the road but, they barely notice.
"Are we driving towards Uptown? it's getting pretty quiet",
"Even with a blindfold on, you're still trying to figure it out", he jokes and they share a brief laugh before, the car starts to make a strange sound and it stops abruptly.
"Wren?", she instinctively pulls the blindfolds off. They're on one of the major roads that lead to Uptown but, this part of the city is much more empty than where they were coming from.
"s**t!", he tries to start up the engine over and over but, it fails.
"Do you think it's gas?",
"I don't know. Give me a minute", he pops the trunk opener and gets out of the car. It's windy and dark. The sound of his heavy jungle boots against the gravels on the road emphasizes how quiet it is here. He pops the trunk open and sighs deeply when the smell of compressed heat fills his nostrils. He's about to walk back into the car and suggest they wait it out when he hears a sound. It's very faint and sounds distant but he knows something is out there. Not quite here yet but, close.
He walks back to the driver's door and opens it but, doesn't get in;
"The engine overheated. I think the radiator might be leaking. Ally-",
"Hey, at least we have some snacks in the car. We can have a little picnic while we let it cool off.". Wren would have loved to do that but, he's almost certain whatever the thing in the dark is, it's getting closer. He can hear the faint heartbeats. Two of them.
"Do you know where this is? I mean the name of the street. Could you call someone to come pick us from here?",
"What's wrong?",
"Nothing. Do you know the name of the street?",
"No, Wren, you're scaring me", she whimpers and for the first time tonight, she's worried about her safety.
"I promise, nothing is wrong. Take my phone, call Parker and tell him to listen for my signal and come where I am", Wren can hear the heartbeats of the two unknown identities much closer now.
"Wren, I don't understand. Come inside",
"Ally, listen to me. Call parker, tell him to listen, and hurry here. Don't leave the car, don't put on the hazard lights, and wait till he comes to get you out of here", he shuts the door from outside the car;
"Please, please don't go. Please",
"I'm here. I promise. Just stay in the car. No matter what you hear, don't make a sound. Please". With that, he sets out in the direction of the identities. If they were just regular people walking by and minding their business then he'd laugh at himself and return back to the car to Ally. If they were hunters, he'd lie that he is a member of the Banes pack. Even hunters feared the Banes pack but nobody would give a s**t about an Omega like him from an unrecognized pack.
The closer he gets, the more intensely he can smell them. They smell like forest with a little hint of pine. They smell like werewolves. Wren relaxes at the thought of them being werewolves and he mentally lets his guard down. When he's face to face with the two werewolves, he barely has a chance to speak or move before he's caught by the throat. He immediately shifts mid-air and attempts to struggle out of the chokehold but, they seem a lot stronger than he is. A Beta and a Delta wolf. Why would they be after him?
His attempts at breaking free are futile and he begins to feel lightheaded. Aware that he's about to pass out from suffocation, he uses his last strength to give out a weak howl. Hopefully, Parker. his Alpha would hear it and find Ally in the car.
Slowly, Wren's eyes slumber until they're closed completely and he's almost unconscious so he involuntarily shifts back to his human form. He should have known to run. An Omega wolf with barely any developed skills is at the bottom of the food chain. A frequently recited phrase amongst werewolves crosses his thoughts right before he finally falls into unconsciousness - 'Omega's should never walk alone.'
