Samael
I wake up slowly to the concentrated smell of human blood and the memory of what I had done. Even though I am awake, my body is hesitant to get up from the cold floors of my self-made cage and for once I wish I was one of those people that could dream or make up scenarios in their head so they can sleep just a little longer. I don't dream. Ever. And if by some chance I dream, I never remember them.
When some minutes pass by and I'm ready to face the repercussions of my kills last night, I stand up from my cage. The dried blood is on me but, none of it is mine. It's an automated cage and it locks automatically when someone gets in and doesn't open until 10 hours. That time can be extended or reduced. Just as I get on my feet, I hear the beeping sound and I know I'm about to be set free. The doors jerk open and I step out into the room. It's a mostly empty room that only consists of this cage and some other amenities I use for self preservation. I step out of the room and into the lobby, making sure to lock the door to the room.
In the lobby, I can get a good view of the living room and the entrance and I can see their are dried bloody footsteps on the floor. Once upon a time, I used to have to do a lot of cleaning in the morning when I bring blood back home but, now I have someone I trust to do all of that work for me. I head for the fridge in the kitchen when my stomach rumbles and my appetite for raw meat is heightened. No the rumours are not true - werewolves don't eat human meat. Well if I'm being honest, some archaic werewolves still do but, I was not raised that way. I don't even have a craving for the stuff. I hear some packs still do and sometimes werewolves crave human meat under the influence of a moon.
Just as I'm demolishing a delicious steak, my phone starts to ring from somewhere that isn't here. I follow where the sound is coming from to find out I dropped it at the entrance when I came in last night. It's Lex;
"Finally. Samael, we need you at Hayride",
"What's the occasion? I'm taking a day off", I hold the phone to my ear with my shoulders and continue eating.
"There was an incident at the dungeons last night. You need to come here", I've heard enough.
"I'm on my way", I end the call and I'm not very surprised to see I have several missed calls from Asher. I bailed on him last night. I also have a message from an unknown number. All it says is 'Got home safe'. It's Hera. I know she did. I followed her and made sure of it.
I set my plate down and head to the bathroom to take a shower and leave for Hayride. As I dress myself up in bland black clothes and attempt to tame my unruly hair that I swear gets into my eyes so many f*****g times, I remember I ran home last night so my car is probably still at the bar we followed Parker to. So I have to head there first to pick it up; if it's still there.
While I ride the elevator to the ground floor, I text Jeremy to let him know the house is a mess and I'd need it to not be when I'm back. Jeremy is a much older man that has seen all there is to see in this city. He runs a discreet cleaning service for people like me who can't open our blood stained homes to just anyone. He's a millionaire off of it so I can only imagine a lot of people in this city have a lot of skeletons in their closet.
I use the woods surrounding the city to navigate to the bar. It's almost bizarre to see a werewolf running in the daylight in the city so most of us use the woods when we have to run somewhere during the day. When I get there, I spot my car parked where I left it to my surprise. I don't know where I dropped my keys so I pick my own lock and hot wire my car. I've done this way too many times because I keep forgetting I have a car and leaving it all over the city. I get a few strange looks from by passers and I have to yell 'It's my car' in typical Northview centre fashion.
It takes only about 45 minutes to get to Hayride because it's morning and most people are driving from Hayride to the centre not the other way around. Before I arrive at the dungeons I can already smell the blood and I already know something very very bad happened. I park my car and as I head into the dungeons, I see some familiar werewolves walking out with grim on their faces. Asher sees me and he's the first to speak;
"What happened to you last night?", at first I think he knows about the people I killed and that's what he's referring to but the he adds;
"You just disappeared. With that girl", now I know he thinks I ditched him to go hook up with Hera. Which I totally would.
"Yeah, we had unfinished business", I leave it at that for him to interpret the way he wants as I make my way towards our cages where Lex and Dothan are situated. I can see that there are no bodies but there's still blood;
"What happened?", my question is directed to Dothan;
"There was a break out", a break out isn't very uncommon because their are hundreds of werewolves locked in these cages so it's bound to happen. That's why Delta wolves are left on ground to supervise and put the werewolf down if it breaks out of it's cage.
"In more than one cage. A riot broke out, basically",
"Did we lose anyone? Where are Rick and Jackson?",
"Most of the pups are injured but, they'd live. Rick and Jackson are fine. We needed you here because the riot was orchestrated. They left this behind", Lex says as he dangles a pocket knife in the air. It has an emblem on it we're all too familiar with. Hunters. I observe the knife and say;
"It has blood on it. Human blood. We can trace it to them",
"Unless it's a trap", Asher chips in.
"Xavier isn't back yet, we're not sure how to proceed. These occurrences are beginning to not feel like coincidences", Lex says. Xavier, my father. Xavier, the Alpha who left for a mission two months with the two oldest Betas in our pack and we haven't heard from them since. It's happened before. He always comes back.
"That blood won't stay fresh forever. If you want me to give an order, this is it - let's find them. We can decide what to do with them when we know their location".
