A few moments later when things have slowed down significantly on our floor, Danny is back and ready to go. I head to the locker to change into my own clothes and wash the makeup off my face. In a few minutes, I meet up with Danny downstairs. He’s having a chat with Trinity as I walk up to them.
“Hey”, I say to Trinity who I’m only seeing for the first time tonight. “Danny, where is this thing at again?”, I ask him but, she replies;
“It’s like a 20-minute drive. I was just telling Danny that maybe you guys could wait a little bit and when Willow is ready to leave, we can all go together. Since Danny doesn’t have a ride and you walk to work”,
“Oh. I drove today actually”,
“Finally getting tired of all that walking.”, she jokes. This would be a good time to mention that I haven’t been staying around here for a week now but, I opt to keep it to myself.
“Yeah”, I chuckle and say.
“Great. You guys can call whenever it is you come around and we can all link up. Liam is already there so Hera and I are gonna go now.”, Danny says. We say our goodbyes to Trinity even though technically, we are going to be seeing her in a few minutes.
Danny and I step out of White Rabbit and I lead the way to my car. His face scrunches like my car is a complete eyesore. The audacity of someone that doesn’t even drive to Judge my ride. I almost feel upset but, then I remind myslef that it’s Danny and he’s a bit of a diva.
He gives me the directions to the place we’re going and unlike my car rides with Trinity, Willow and Dothan or even with Sam, we don’t have to turn on the radio at all. Right off the bat, Danny starts to fill me in about this Liam characcter. Apparently they had met at the gym and after weeks of constant ‘eye f*****g’, he had finally asked Danny out. Danny says he’s not looking for anything serious but, his job usually drives many guys away because they think he’s going to cheat.
“Honestly people just think because I interact with lots of customers that means I’m f*****g them. I’m just doing my job. And sometimes that involves flirting with attractive men. You know how it is.”, I’m not sure I know how it is. I understand what he’s saying though but, I can’t lie that Danny is quite flirtateous with lots of customers. If I was dating him, it could make me a bit insecure too.
“Literally that’s what ruined my last relationship. He thought I was cheating so he cheated. Piece of shit.”,
“What an asshole. That was his excuse for cheating?”,
“Right? It’s ridiculous. I’m telling you just never let your boyfriend come see you at work. Seein you in that environment just does something to them. I have no idea how Trinity and Dothan do it”,
“Good thing I don’t have a boyfriend”, this causes Danny to roll his eyes and give me that look like I’m lying.
“What? I don’t”,
“You just give off this vibe like you’re taken, that’s all. Did you just come out of a long term relationship?”,
“Not exactly”, I think about Rainer as I add; “I mean we weren’t….together. But yeah I guess what we had gave me this false security like I had someone y’knw? He’s always there”,
“Sounds hella complicated. I love it. I wanna hear everything”, Danny brightens up at the expense of my love life. I don’t even mind it. It’s so nice to have someone to talk to.
We’re barely into the gist when we arrive at the live performance location. It’s an outdoor event and the whole place is littered with humans. We park in a safe place where it’d be easy to leave and I wait as Danny texts Liam to let him know he’s here and find out where exactly he is.
“Ugh’, he groans and then palms his face.
“What happened?”,
“He says something came up. He had to leave”, he sounds very disappointed and I feel bad for him. Clearly he was really looking forward to this date.
“I’m sorry, Danny. I’m sure you guys will be able to reschedule for another day”,
“f**k Liam. I don’t care. We’re here and we’re going to have some fun. Let’s go”, I wonder how he can be so energetic when we just got off work. He’s right though. We’re here already so we might as well check it out. As much as I want to be at Sam’s right now, I know Danny actually needs this so I go along with him.
We blend into the crowd and go get drinks first. It’s so nice to be on the custoer end rather than the bartender end. We do shots as a group comes up the stage and starts singing this amazing song that makes me want to get on a table and break guitars;
“Ohmygod they’re so good”, I yell into Danny’s ears.
“This isn’t them though. Just an opening act”, he yells back. We enjoy the music for a few minutes. Any of the people around us sing along but, I don’t know the words to any song so I try to dance a little bit but, I know I might need a few more drinks to let loose. Danny on the other hand looks a lttile out of it.
“Hey, wanna get another drink?”, I ask him. He nods.
“Okay stay right here. I’d be back”, I weave through the crowd and over to the bar. Being surrounded by these many people who have no idea who I am and I have no idea who they are makes me feel invisible. I love it.
When I get there, there is a bit of a queue so it takes a little while before it’s my turn. I order four shots of tequila so I won’t have to come back here and hopefully that’ll be enough to get Danny to lighten up. Somewhere at the back of my mind, I know we’re definetly not going to be leaving any time soon. Because I am in no mood to drive again.
I balance the drinks on a tiny tray an try so hard to get back to where I left Danny without bumping into someone and spilling the drinks. Ofcourse, they spill a bit because even though I’m super careful, other people aren’t.
I sight Danny and he’s not alone. There’s a really goos looking man in a bun talking to him. He seems to be into it so I guess it’s not a drink he needed but, just some attention. I stand there like a creep and take one of the shots as I admire them from afar. I’m literally shipping them already just because Danny looks happy again and hoepfullly he’s forgotten all abot=ut Liam.
His eyes wander towards my direction and he sees me. He waves for me to come over and I do;
“Heyo. Got some more drinks. Hi there”, I don’t know who this social butterly is but, I’m loving it. Danny takes one drink and offers the other to the man bun guy.
“This is my friend, Hera. Hera this is Shawn”,
“Hi Shawn”, we shake hands and exchange smiles and then he corks his head to the side and says;
“Have we met before? You look very familiar”, he says. He's not being flirtateous or anything. He means it. My eyes dart away as I remove my hand from the hand shake.
"She has one of those faces, doesn't she?", Danny jokes and downplays it as though he's pretty sure we haven't met before. I don't think I've met this person before either but, my mind is panicking in every direction.
