Chris kept an eye out for James as he stood in front of the mausoleum with Dylan and Ron, who were being questioned by the police. While he wanted to listen to what they were saying, Chris couldn’t stop worrying about James’s reaction. He’d put his relationship with James in jeopardy by meeting with Nolan, but hopefully James would understand what an important lead Nolan had been. If only they had more to show from their meeting than Nolan’s taped confession and Travis hobbling around, apologizing.
A black Ford Fusion quickly approached the scene and parked behind the line of three police cars in front of the mausoleum. James stepped out of the driver’s side and locked eyes with Chris, then marched toward them with his brow furrowed and his hands clenched into fists.
