KYRA
“That’s how we’ve always been with each other.” Liam said with an amused expression on his face. The effects of Seraphina still lingered and Kyra was not having any of it. She tried to not make it look like it bothered her but she was failing badly as it seemed.
“And yes she did chip my tooth.” He said again with a child-like blush as he turned to the bed where Kyra sat.
”But I put up a good fight if I do say so myself.” He let out a chuckle but stopped when he saw the expression on Kyra’s face.
“Is anything the matter, Kyra.” He enquired as his smile dropped.
“Nothing at all.” Kyra reassured as she forced a grin. “I’ve just never seen you smile that much.”
“Kyra…” Liam started, motioning towards the bed she was seated in. “She’s my best friend. I’ve known her since I was a child. But you are my mate.”
“I understand. I just…”
“It’s ok if you feel a little jealous_” he added.
Kyra’s brows scrunched up almost immediately in response to that statement.
“Excuse me?”
“It’s normal. It’s what happens with mates. You’re just not accustomed to our ways yet. You barely even spent two nights here. I should have known better than to make you feel that way. I’ve just really missed Seraphina.”
It struck a nerve that Liam thought she was ignorant of how things were done. She was, yes, but coming from him made her tummy turn. And no matter what Kyra did, she knew she’d never be fully welcome or integrated.
“I miss my parents.” She let out in an attempt to change the topic. If this discussion went on further she would eventually cave in and admit she was in fact extremely jealous.
“It’s only been a day"
“Yes but they will be looking for me.”
“I’ll arrange for a couple gammas to escort you to your home in a few days after you’ve fully rested. It’s not safe out there for you alone.” He whispered as he brushed his fingers against her cheeks.
“You don’t know what’s best for me.” She snapped as she got up from the bed quickly, trying her best to stay away from him. “You don’t even know anything about me but my name!”
“That’s why I want you to stay a little longer so we can bond better and prepare you for your new position as Luna.” He added as he got off the bed to bridge their distance.
“What…what's a Luna?” Kyra inquired as she scrunched up her face once more in confusion.
“As queen of Lupus Regalis.” He clarified. “Luna is the title of the queen of a pack. The alpha’s bride. Well, in our case, the queen of a dynasty. See? You have a lot to learn.” He added, trying his best to calm and reason with her.
Kyra was not having any of it. There was no way he was being serious.
“It’s only been a day, you barely even know me and you want me to get married to you. Did you even care to ask me if I want any of this?”
“But we are fated mates. It’s the way it has always been.”
“Do you even like me? Or you’re just following tradition? What makes you think I’d leave my completely normal human life and just stay here with you after just one day.”
And that was when Kyra saw it in his eyes. She had just triggered an epiphany.
His wolf liked her, there was no disputing that. His wagging and cooing around her was strong enough evidence but did he— Liam— know her enough to love her.
She had opened his eyes to something he had never thought of before. It was easy for him to see himself getting married to the females in other packs because it was what he was supposed to do. But with Kyra, it was different.
He wasn’t going to get married to her because of a political union. She was fated to him so he was supposed to marry her for love. But if that love wasn’t true, what was the point?
And before he could fully process the bomb that she had dropped, she announced.
“I need space to think everything through.”
“There are dozens of rooms in the mansion. I’ll go sleep in one.” He whispered.
He wanted her to stay in his room. Her scent lingered wherever she went and it comforted him. Or at least his wolf. He didn’t know which was which anymore and if his feelings were his or his wolf’s.
“I’d better get myself accustomed to how things are done. I’d take a tour around. I wouldn’t want to misunderstand something else out of my ignorance ” She spat.
“I’ll get someone to guide you around.”
“ I don’t need it.” she snapped. “I’ll take care of myself. I’m not a child.”
“Kyra_” he hesitated.
And with that, Kyra was out of his bedroom leaving him with an emotional burden.

Martha— or one of the maids. Kyra could hardly keep count of all their names—had shown her to the library as she had requested.
It was even more enormous than she had ever imagined with book shelves towering high. Kyra had run out of wonder so her staring didn’t linger for too long.
She was also too preoccupied with thoughts of how her parents were doing knowing she was missing. The facility would be looking for her by now. And,of course, her so-called mate had just infuriated her.
Amidst all of these, there wasn’t much wonder left for her to ogle at this gargantuan room just like the other gargantuan rooms in the mansion.
She had come to learn because as much as Kyra wanted to be stubborn, she also found herself caring about the half beast man.
It was that stupid mate mojo, she thought to herself. There was no way she had actual feelings for that entitled rich brat boy.
And just when she was about to bury herself in some mythology and werewolf knowledge, her shiny black hair caught her attention and her anger grew even more.
Seraphina was reading through a huge antique book as she stood next to a shelf.
Kyra studied her figure and facial features, was reminded of how truly exquisite Seraphina looked and as though her anger had not already risen to the roof, it elevated to the sky.
“Oh hi again.” Seraphina chanted as she caught Kyra’s eyes peering into her skin.
Kyra did not care to look away. She wanted Seraphina to know she had her eyes on her.
“You’re…” she started as she strolled towards Kyra. “…what’s that your name again?” She said as she clicked her fingers and hissed, faking an attempt at remembering her name.
“Cut the crap, Seraphina. I know you remember my name. We just had dinner a few moments ago.” Kyra snapped.
“Oh…” Seraphina faked a pout. “ I really just do not recall. Irrelevant information simply goes into my short term memory. Seeing that you won’t be staying here for long, it doesn’t really matter if I recall your name or not.” She says all this with a pretty grin on her face.
“I knew you were a mean girl. No one is ever that bubbly. And mind you, if I want to leave this house, it would be on my own terms.”
And then, Seraphina began to clap mockingly, taking a step closer to Kyra with each one.
“I love your spirit girl. You’re different from all the girls that have tried to be Luna but just like all the rest, you’re going to fall flat on your behind. I give you a week”
“I have no interest in becoming Luna. I only just figured out what that was tonight. You can keep your throne.” Kyra persisted as she took a few steps backward. Her face showed obvious irritation.
“But if that’s so true, why does your blood boil at the thought of me and Liam being so close?” Seraphina questioned as she traced a nearby table with her long black nails. “What would you then do when you find out that I was his first kiss?”
Kyra’s eyes widened and she could feel her heart rate increase.
“Oh, he didn’t tell you that?” She mocked.
Seraphina came a little closer to her ear and whispered
“Or that one time when he was drunk after his father died, he was this close to feeling the warmth of what was between my thighs.”
Kyra had had enough and with one motion, she grabbed a handful of Seraphina’s hair and rammed her head against the book shelf.
Seraphina made a loud thud as she fell to the floor. And as she raised her head, under the dark shiny hair and bloody nose, Kyra could make out a vicious smirk.
“Help!!!” Seraphina wailed.
That was when Kyra realized she had just fallen head first into Seraphina’s trap.
