William “I hate delays.” He repeated himself. “All of it,” he said. I suddenly felt smart. “That’s why I’ll give you your full money. No more 5% or let’s think of it as a 5% consideration for the delay.” He raised one of his overarched eyebrows. “How’s that?” I fought the urge to swallow loudly, genuinely grateful to the gods of luck that somehow I had kept my life. “That’s all?” I said, spreading my hands wide. “That is,” he replied. “Unless, of course, you have something you want to tell me, Doc?” He raised that eyebrow again. “No,” I said, stepping back. Maybe I did, I thought to myself. Maybe I should ask for some form of compensation, considering it wasn’t my fault that his shipments had been delayed. But stuff like that would only make me look like a whiny b***h. He let me go
