"I did," I suddenly explained, yanking my hand free of William’s grip and darting over to the car. I was just about to stop him from sticking his head out.
"Don’t," I said, leaning toward him. "Give me $5, quick!" I stretched out my hand.
At first, Bruce looked at me like I had stepped on him with a pile of dirt. "Five dollars?" he said, reaching into his pocket. "I'll give you more than that." He pulled out a $100 bill.
I snatched it from his hand quickly and ran back to the front of my apartment, where William was now starting to walk down the stairs.
"I forgot my change," I said, stuffing the money into my bag and opening my front door. "What’s up?" I asked as I let him and the two police officers in.
