Eliana’s breath fogged the mirror as she stood frozen in her suite, fingertips tracing her lips.
She had danced with many men at galas, met powerful sons of ministers and billionaires. But Lucas… Lucas didn’t flirt. He didn’t try to impress her. And yet, her body reacted like it had known him in another lifetime.
What is this?
That strange warmth had returned—low in her chest, pulsing like a second heartbeat.
The air felt heavy when he was around, as if time held its breath. Her hands trembled as she touched the gemstone at her neck. It shimmered again, not with light, but something deeper—energy.
She closed her eyes. Then the whisper returned.
> “He’s part of it... He’ll either unlock you… or destroy you.”
Her eyes snapped open.
Meanwhile – In Lucas’s Room
Lucas sat at the edge of the bed, staring at a photo of himself and his real mother—before he was adopted.
He rarely looked at it.
But tonight, it called to him.
The bond was forming. He could feel it in his bones.
And that terrified him.
Because when he first transformed five years ago, the Oracle of Shadows had warned him:
> “The first woman your soul binds to will awaken the curse inside her. If she’s not strong enough… she will break.”
Lucas had never told anyone.
But now, it was too late.
The bond was already forming.
The Next Morning
Sunlight filtered through the tall windows as the families gathered for breakfast in the Kwenzi estate’s crystal dining room. Eliana sat between her father and cousin, sipping tea, barely hearing anything.
Lucas entered the room late.
Dark suit. No tie. Collar slightly undone.
But it wasn’t his look that silenced the room.
It was the weight he carried.
He nodded at everyone, then sat across from her.
“Good morning,” Eliana offered politely.
He didn’t smile. “Did you sleep well?”
Her throat tightened. “Not really.”
“Me neither.”
Their eyes locked—and something passed between them. Something neither of them could explain, but both could feel.
Her tea went cold. His hand clenched his glass.
His mother broke the tension. “We were discussing the engagement dinner. It’ll be held next Saturday.”
Eliana’s heart thudded.
Engaged.
To the man who made her entire soul feel like it was cracking open.
She wasn’t ready.
She wasn’t even sure what he was.
Later That Day – Garden Terrace
Eliana needed air. She wandered into the Kwenzi gardens, pretending to admire the roses, but her mind raced.
Lucas followed.
She sensed him before she heard his steps. Heavy. Unhurried.
“Why me?” she asked quietly, not turning.
He didn’t pretend not to understand. “I didn’t choose this.”
“Then why are you okay with it?”
“I’m not,” he said honestly. “But something bigger than us wants this to happen.”
She turned sharply. “Is that supposed to comfort me?”
“No,” he said, stepping closer. “It’s a warning.”
There was a pause.
“You’re not… normal, are you?” she whispered.
Neither flinched.
“No,” Lucas admitted.
Her fingers gripped the edge of the stone railing. “And me?”
He tilted his head slightly, eyes narrowing with curiosity. “You feel it too, don’t you?”
Eliana hesitated, then nodded.
He stepped even closer.
“When I’m near you,” he said slowly, “my control weakens. The beast inside… reacts to you.”
She trembled. “Then stay away.”
He smirked, but his eyes were sad. “That’s the problem. I can’t.”
That Night – In the Shadows
Lucas met his adoptive father in the hidden chamber beneath the estate.
It was cold, ancient, and lined with relics from past Alphas—many of whom had never survived their own bondings.
“She’s already connected to the bloodline,” Mr. Kwenzi said, placing a scroll on the table. “She just doesn’t know it yet.”
“She’s not a werewolf,” Lucas muttered.
“She’s something rarer,” his father replied. “Half-seer. Descendant of the Okaru line. The gemstone she wears? It binds her power.”
Lucas stared at the scroll, breath shallow. “She’s a catalyst.”
“Yes. And if she bonds fully with you…”
Lucas shook his head. “I won’t let that happen.”
But his father looked at him with something between pride and fear. “You don’t get to decide. Fate already chose.”
Eliana’s Room – Midnight Again
She opened an old book from her late grandmother.
Inside were sketches of beasts with glowing eyes, notes about soul-mates, and warnings: “Beware the Alpha born from ash. He who touches the moon without dying shall rule the blood.”
Her fingers shook.
On the last page was a name written in red ink.
Lucas Kwenzi.
Back at Lucas’s Balcony
The moon rose slowly, its light washing over his skin.
His eyes turned gold again.
His breath came out in fog.
“Eliana…” he whispered into the night.
And somewhere in the dark, a hidden wolf howled.
