The air in the room was colder now, thick with energy neither of them could explain.
Lucas’s golden eyes scanned the flickering corners, protective instincts roaring inside him. Eliana gripped his wrist, her fingers trembling but her voice steady.
“That voice,” she said. “It sounded like… more than one.”
Lucas nodded, jaw tight. “That wasn’t a person. That was a warning.”
Eliana tilted her head. “From what?”
Lucas paused, then answered in a voice low and distant.
> “From the ones who created me.”
Elsewhere – Midnight Ruins
In a forest far beyond the city, hidden beneath the roots of an ancient tree, a forgotten altar lit up with a pulse of gold.
A figure cloaked in gray robes stood beside it, his face hidden.
“The Seer has awakened,” he whispered to the night. “The bond is forming. The Alpha is still resisting… but it won’t last long.”
A second figure, taller, appeared from the shadows. “If they complete the bond before the full moon, the curse will shift.”
“Then we must stop it.”
“Or use it.”
The wind howled—carrying the first wolf cry of war.
Back at the Kwenzi Mansion
Eliana sat curled in a chair in Lucas’s private study, a blanket wrapped around her shoulders. The fire crackled softly.
Lucas poured her warm tea, then sat across from her.
“You said you’ve seen me in dreams,” he said after a long pause. “What kind of dreams?”
Eliana looked down at the cup. “They always start the same. A burning forest. A wolf. A woman in white screaming my name. And you… standing in the center, eyes glowing, covered in blood—but not your own.”
Lucas went still.
“I’ve never told anyone that,” she whispered. “Not even my parents.”
He leaned forward slightly. “The woman in white—what does she say?”
Eliana furrowed her brow. “She says... protect the Alpha before the fifth moon rises.”
Lucas stood abruptly, pacing.
“That’s not a dream. That’s a vision.”
Eliana’s heart pounded. “What does it mean?”
“It means,” he said quietly, “that your powers aren’t just for seeing. They’re for guiding. You’re the only thing between me and the curse.”
She stood too. “Then tell me what the curse really is.”
Lucas hesitated. Then—he walked to a locked drawer, pulled out a worn leather book, and handed it to her.
She flipped through the pages—each one filled with dark illustrations of wolves, moons, and bound souls.
“There was once an Alpha who disobeyed the laws of the Moon Circle,” he said. “He mated with a Seer and stole her light. The curse was created to punish him. Every Alpha born with his blood carries it now.”
Eliana touched a sketch of a glowing girl. “She looks like me.”
Lucas nodded. “Because you’re descended from her.”
Moments Later – Outside the Mansion
A black SUV rolled slowly past the gates. Inside sat the robed figure from the forest, watching the lights from the windows above.
“He’s found her,” he whispered.
A voice crackled from a device in his hand. “Then it begins.”
The Next Morning
Eliana awoke to soft sunlight spilling through her curtains—and the heavy weight of truth.
She had a role in something ancient.
And Lucas… wasn’t a monster. He was a broken piece of a bigger puzzle.
At breakfast, the families pretended everything was normal.
Pancakes. Fresh fruit. Newspapers.
But beneath the calm was tension—a storm waiting to break.
Lucas barely touched his food. He kept glancing toward Eliana, as if checking she was real.
She finally broke the silence. “Can we go for a walk?”
His mother smiled. “Of course, dear.”
The Walk – Private Trail Behind the Estate
Eliana and Lucas walked side by side down a winding dirt path flanked by wildflowers and twisted oaks.
“I need to know,” she said finally. “Why me?”
Lucas stopped. Turned to her.
“You were born with light. I was born with darkness. And now the universe is forcing us to meet in the middle.”
“That’s poetic,” she said softly. “And tragic.”
He smiled faintly. “You don’t have to stay.”
“I know,” she said. “But I think I want to.”
Lucas stared at her for a moment. “Even knowing I could lose control?”
“You didn’t hurt me,” she said. “You protected me.”
The wind picked up.
Lucas turned away.
“I dreamt once,” he whispered, “that I would fall in love with someone too good for me. And that loving her would be my punishment.”
Eliana reached for his hand.
“Maybe it’s not punishment,” she said gently. “Maybe it’s a cure.”
Suddenly – A Distant Explosion
BOOM.
They both turned as smoke began rising from the forest behind the estate.
Lucas’s wolf instincts kicked in immediately. He pulled Eliana behind him.
Then his eyes turned golden. “Stay here.”
“I’m not leaving you.”
Another explosion. This time closer.
Figures began appearing in the trees—cloaked, moving fast, whispering in strange tongues.
Lucas growled. “They’re here for the bond.”
Eliana’s eyes widened. “The robed ones…”
Lucas’s voice turned low. “Shadowbound.”
“Who are they?”
“The ones who want to steal your light… and bury me in darkness.”
