Lucian's POV The music echoed in the hall, but I couldn't hear anything. I held her in my hands. She had passed out. “Saraphina,” I breathed. I quickly carried her. Everyone turned to look—a king carrying a slave, but I didn’t care. My heart raced as rage spread through my body. When my eyes fell to her wrist, I knew she had been drained. And I knew exactly who was responsible. But I had to get her out of here. As I walked out of the hall, Veronica’s eyes landed on me. She looked startled. It wasn’t guilt. It was fear. She knew.
