Saraphina's POV I stood by the window, blanket over my shoulders. I was lost in my own head, not even bothered by what Veronica had come to say. But he saved me. Why would he save me? That was the only thought that kept playing back and forth. I was a maid. I’d expected him to send his guards after me, but he came himself, and he hadn’t spoken of my punishment for trying to escape. I stared at the gloomy sky. It felt like a storm after a heavy downpour.
