OLIVIA’S POV
Two hours and forty minutes.
I knew because I had checked the clock eleven times since we sat down. Each time telling myself I was not going to check again and then checking again seven minutes later because my body had decided that counting time was the only useful thing available to it.
I could not sit still anymore.
I stood up.
Jaden glanced up from his phone.
“I am just going to check if anyone is coming out,” I said before he could ask.
I walked to the corridor that led toward the operating theater. In the same corridor I had watched the porter wheel my father down that morning. It was empty now. Quiet and clean and giving nothing away. No doctors. No nurses moving with urgency. No news of any kind.
