Chapter 14: Blood On The Moonlight

376 Words
The night was a maelstrom of chaos — howls pierced the sky, blades clashed against teeth, and the air burned with primal fury. Aria moved through the battlefield like a tempest, her blade singing a deadly song, protecting Calen whenever the boy’s small form darted between trees. Lucien fought at her side, a force of nature himself, his silver eyes blazing with an intensity that made even the fiercest enemies hesitate. He caught a rogue trying to flank Aria and tore the attacker down with brutal precision. Amidst the c*****e, Aria spotted a shadow moving towards Calen — faster than any wolf should be able to. Her heart hammered as she lunged forward, throwing herself between the threat and her son. Time slowed — pain exploded in her side, and she stumbled. Lucien was there instantly, a roar of rage shaking the forest. He dragged Aria away, blood staining his hands. “Stay with me,” he commanded fiercely. Aria’s vision blurred, but she clung to consciousness, gripping his arm. The child inside her kicked hard, as if sensing the danger. The battle raged on around them, but in that moment, everything else faded. When the dawn finally broke, the forest was quiet except for the ragged breaths of the survivors. Aria lay against a tree, pain radiating through her body, but her wolf surged with fierce protectiveness. Calen sat beside her, eyes wide but steady. Lucien knelt before them, his usual armor cracked with raw emotion. “You saved him,” he said softly to Aria. “You saved both of you.” Tears welled in her eyes. “We have to be stronger. For him. For all of us.” Calen’s golden eyes flicked between his parents. “I want to fight. I want to protect you both.” Lucien smiled for the first time in years, pride shining through his pain. “And you will. But first, you must learn.” Aria reached out, fingers brushing Lucien’s cheek. “Together.” Lucien’s wolf growled low — not at her, but at the world that had brought them here. The fight was far from over. But for the first time, Aria felt the true strength of their bond — not just fate, but family.
