Chapter 6: Secrets In The Shadows

336 Words
Inside the cabin, the fire flickered low, casting dancing shadows over worn wooden walls. Aria sat with Calen pressed close to her side, his head resting against her shoulder. Lucien paced outside, the rain soaking through his cloak as he fought an invisible war within himself. “How do you expect me to trust you?” Aria’s voice broke the silence, sharp and wary. Lucien stopped, hands clenched at his sides. “I don’t expect anything. Not yet. But I’m here because the rogues aren’t just a threat to you or me — they’re hunting our blood.” Calen stirred, looking up with those strange, glowing eyes. “Our blood,” Aria repeated, feeling a cold knot twist in her stomach. Lucien looked at her then, something raw and vulnerable beneath the Alpha’s steel. “I need you both. To survive this, and to protect him.” Aria swallowed hard, the mother in her fighting against every instinct to reject this man again. But deep down, the wolf inside her knew — the pack was not what it used to be. And alone, she was not strong enough. Days passed, and the forest grew darker with danger. The rogues moved like shadows, striking with brutal precision. Aria and Lucien, uneasy allies, hunted together — a dance of old wounds and new necessities. One night, Calen vanished. Panic exploded in Aria’s chest as she tore through the forest, calling his name. Lucien’s silver eyes glowed fiercely beside her. “They took him.” The rogues. He was right. A faint trail of blood led deeper into the wild, to the forbidden grounds. “We need to move fast,” Lucien growled. “They want to break the bond. To shatter what we fought to keep alive.” Aria nodded, heart pounding. For the first time in years, fear was not just for herself — but for her son, her blood, her future. Together, they plunged into the shadows, chasing a nightmare that threatened to consume them all.
