"My sister, what are you talking about? I can't understand a word," Yoyo showed an innocent and fragile expression, blinking her large eyes.
Selena did not respond but coldly slammed a thick stack of documents on the table. After leaving Crownview the previous night, she spent the entire night quietly erasing all the surveillance footage of her entering and exiting the hotel. Not only that, she had tracked down the man who was following her and discovered frequent calls and financial transactions between him and Yoyo.
Seeing the evidence on the table, Yoyo's body trembled slightly, her face pale as paper. She never expected that this woman, who grew up in the countryside, could actually obtain surveillance data from Crownview!
Upon seeing this, Helen, like a dog, stepped on its tail, and immediately jumped up, "Selena! Don't throw dirt on Yoyo! Yoyo kindly went to the airport to pick you up. Not only do you not appreciate it, but you also concoct such absurd stories to frame her! What do these documents prove? Is it wrong for Yoyo to make friends and help them?"
A cold glint flashed in Selena's eyes, "If I can find these, I can continue to dig out more conclusive evidence. If you don't want these materials to be sent to the police or made public to the media, then please, Miss Yoyo, stop doing these meaningless things."
"Aaron! Look at your good daughter! She offended the Lansing family yesterday, and today she's here threatening her own sister. What's next, stepping on our heads tomorrow? You..." Helen was so angry that her face turned pale, almost falling over.
Aaron and Yoyo hurriedly helped her back to bed. The ECG machine connected to her showed irregular fluctuations.
Selena calmly took out a pill from her pocket, placed it in Helen's mouth, and gently pressed her throat to help her swallow the pill.
Yoyo saw this and rushed over, grabbing Selena's collar tightly, "What are you trying to do to my mom? Her heart is already weak, do you want to strangle her?! Sister Selena, I know you hate me for taking your rightful place. If you have any grievances, just come at me, don't hurt my family!"
Helen recovered a bit and immediately protected Yoyo, "Good child, Mom hasn't pampered you in vain over these years. Don't worry, if she dares any excessive behavior, I won't be lenient, as if we never had her in our family!"
The mother and daughter hugged each other tightly, crying inconsolably, creating a deeply touching scene.
Selena found the whole situation rather peaceful to her ears.
Before leaving, she handed Aaron a box of just-opened medicine, "Follow the instructions for dosage."
Aaron took the dark blue medicine box, glanced at the mother and daughter in the ward, and then quickly followed out.
"Selena! Your mother, because of being stimulated, might have spoken a bit too harshly. Don't take it to heart."
Selena did not stop, only lightly "Hmm" in response.
"Is this medicine the new 'CRN' developed by Professor Haylee's team under the International Pharmaceutical Association? I heard it just came on the market not long ago and is not yet available domestically. You specially brought it back from abroad, which is very thoughtful. Your mom would be very grateful if she knew..."
"She doesn't need to know," Selena interrupted him, "Once the divorce is settled, I'll leave."
Her "leave" clearly meant leaving the Sutton family and returning to her original life.
Aaron's heart tightened, wanting to say something but unable to speak. After everything he had witnessed, how could he ask her to stay and endure more hardships?
"Selena, you've given so much to this family, dad is very grateful. We owe you an apology. Yoyo has been spoiled since she was young, she's naive. Yesterday... are you okay?"
Selena's mind flashed through the vague scenes of last night with her ex-boyfriend, her face unnaturally showing a hint of embarrassment.
"Nothing much. I felt unwell, so I went to rest until dawn."
"That's good. Selena, you're always welcome to come back, this will always be your home."
Exiting the hospital, Selena received an international call.
"How's the divorce going? How does it feel to be back home?" Professor Haylee asked.
"It's okay, I'll be back soon."
"That quick? Didn't you say you were going to stay in the country for a while? Your grandfather's last wish before he died was for you to learn to live like an ordinary person and reintegrate into society..."
Selena looked up at the sky outside the window, the distant skyline gradually receding from her view.
Under that clear sky, the hospital's buildings gradually shrank until they finally disappeared from sight.
Her voice carried a hint of indifference and detachment, "I feel that such a life is not suitable for me."
As night fell, Selena booked a luxurious dinner at the most famous Pearlview Pavilion on the commercial street and sent another email to Quentin. In truth, she wasn't too keen on meeting this so-called perverted old man.
However, when she married into the Lansing family two years ago, her grandfather worried she might be bullied, especially including a set of Celestial Manor villas as her dowry. Now, with the divorce imminent, property division naturally needed careful handling. It was her grandfather's legacy, and she had to take it back.
Across the street, the towering metal business building was the headquarters of the Lansing Group, a financial empire with immense power and wealth.
At the top floor's massive floor-to-ceiling windows, Quentin stood overlooking the city's nightscape, his figure tall and lonely, like a statue. In his hand, he held a dark metal cane, exuding a cold and aloof temperament.
Behind him, on the expensive Persian carpet, lay a blurry figure, still desperately pleading for something.
Assistant Xavier entered, glanced at the person on the floor, then emotionlessly withdrew his gaze, "President Quentin, we've just received an email. Miss Selena has contacted you again."
Quentin's disdain for the Sutton family had reached its peak, leaving no means of contact with them. The only email was managed by Xavier, who himself turned a blind eye.
"She couldn't resist, huh? What's she planning this time? A tantrum or begging on her knees?"
"Neither. Miss Selena said she was delayed by urgent matters that night and couldn't make it to the meeting. She also said she's already booked a restaurant, inviting you to meet tonight."
"Who does she think she is, summoning me at her whim?" Quentin sneered, "If she didn't come, then who did I see that night? This woman is full of nonsense."
"President Quentin, should I check the surveillance at Crownview? If it's really unrelated to the Sutton family, once this gets out, not only will your relationship with Miss Selena be exposed, but it will also impact the Lansing family's reputation.
Quentin was silent for a moment before finally speaking, "Give me the address."
Xavier handed over the coat, helping him put it on, "Pearlview Pavilion Room 8."
Before leaving, Quentin glanced down at the person on the floor, lifting his chin with the cold metal cane. His eyes showed a cruel mockery.
"Remember, this is what happens when you go against the Lansing family."
He wiped the blood off his clothes with the cane, his actions displaying disdain and elegance, "Clean this up."
He meant the stains on the carpet, but Xavier understood his real intent was to dispose of that person.
"Yes," Xavier responded.
As Quentin's footsteps faded away, the heavy wooden door slowly closed, cutting off the only light source.
The office plunged into darkness, the sound of despair echoing throughout the floor.
