Aubrey opened her eyes when the sun hit her face, she stirred in her bed and a smile crept in her face once she remembered the beautiful date she had last night. After finishing dinner they shared a sweet kiss and parted ways to rest for the night. It was something she has read in books before but she never thought she’d live to experience something as pure. She went to take a quick shower and dressed in a pair of jeans, a floral blouse and simple flip flops before exiting her room.
A big flower bouquet was standing marvelously in the middle of the living room, approaching it, she noticed that there was a card with her name on top of it:
‘Good morning, my love. I have business to attend, please feel free to do as you please within the pack’s territory. I have appointed Troy to help you with whatever you need. I will be back in the afternoon.
-Donovan’
“Good morning, Luna” right on cue, Troy entered the living room from the hall that took to the meeting room. Instead of his usual business casual attire he was actually in sports clothes with basketball shorts and a black sleeveless shirt.
“Morning Troy, please just call me Aubrey. Were you exercising?”
“Sure, let’s call it that.” Aubrey looked at him quizzically but he just shrugged it off and walked towards her, “So, what do you want to do today?”
“I’m sorry that you got stuck with babysitting me. I am sure there are better things that you could be doing with your time than staying with me. I’m pretty sure I can sit in the library all day, you can go do whatever you want, don’t worry.”
Troy just shook his head, “No, can’t do, Luna. I have instructions from my Alpha to protect you and that is what I will do. Trust me, there’s no bigger honor for a werewolf than to protect his Luna.”
“But protect me from what, Troy? Nothing will happen to me!”
“Then my work will be a piece of cake, right?” he smirked while leaning on the nearest wall to where Aubrey was standing. “So?”
“I don’t know… What do you do when you’re not following Donovan’s orders?”
Troy looked at her confused, he was not expecting that question, “Well… I’m usually hanging with the guys or playing video games.”
Aubrey weighed her options. She could happily spend the day just reading but she didn’t want Troy to be dragged to that. On the other side, being around a lot of men felt like something she would be very uncomfortable with and she didn’t even know what a video game was.
Troy cleared his throat trying to catch her attention that was obviously in a big internal conflict, “I could show you around the house if you want.” Aubrey nodded gladly at this suggestion. “Perfect. Do you want to eat breakfast first?”
“I’m good, thank you. I already ate.” She lied, she was still feeling full from last night. Fortunately, Troy wasn’t as good reading people as Donovan was and he just walked towards the elevator. “Ok so the fifth floor is exclusively for the Alpha as you already know. It is also the smallest of all the floors. The fourth floor is reserved for the head families: Alpha, Beta and Gamma. So obviously, that’s where Alex and I live.” He said while they were entering the elevator.
“So that is where Donovan parents live?”
Troy shifted in his feet uncomfortably, “Alpha Damien and Luna Estella died ten years ago.”
“I’m sorry to hear that.”
“It’s ok. Donovan became Alpha of the pack once they died, when he was 18 years old, he has managed the pack incredibly well.”
“That must have been hard.”
“It was.” The both stayed quiet until the elevator arrived at the ground floor. “Anyway, as I was saying, the second and third floor are for the rest of the pack. The ground floor is the fun part, because that is where everyone gathers.” They turned to the left and they entered a corridor with crystal rooms at both sides, each room contained different types of entertainment features. Some had pool tables, others had televisions, and a couple of them had tables with similar crystal podiums like the one at Donovan’s library. Some of the rooms were already full of life but they were so immense in their activities that they didn’t notice them passing by. “These are the entertainment rooms, as you might have already guessed, we have approximately twenty rooms in here for all types of tastes. All of them with soundproof walls so it doesn’t affect the rest of the rooms.”
The hall took two sharp rights before they returned to the main entrance. Then they walked to the opposite side where the great hall was located. Large wooden tables occupied the space, there were at least a hundred werewolves eating breakfast and chatting lively.
“This is the main hall where we usually gather for pack announcements and, obviously, for eating.” Werewolves were passing by and bowing to Aubrey on their way out, mumbling things like ‘Good Morning, Luna’ or ‘It’s an honor, Luna’. Aubrey just responded with a nod, without knowing how else to respond. They finished crossing the great hall and entered a door to the right that led to an industrial kitchen where a lot of people were working non-stop; the heat increased dramatically and everyone was shouting. Trays full of food kept exiting and empty ones were entering. People stopped on their tracks whenever they saw Aubrey passing, they gave a small bow, similar to the people in the hall, and continued with their activities. They reached the end of the kitchen where a wooden double door directed them to the backyard.
The morning air made Aubrey breath regularly again, not noticing how suffocated she was feeling back there. Although she was not sure if it was because of the heat of the kitchen or because of the amount of people that just kept staring at her. Once her eyes adjusted to the light she noticed the sight in front of her and she couldn’t avoid staring in awe.
“And this is the training arena.” Humans and wolves were fighting against each other. All of them completely naked, just a few of them with very few clothes like underwear, basketball shorts or jeans. All chests bare and a lot of them with bloody injuries across their bodies. Before she could register much, suddenly her view was completely blocked by a sweaty tanned bare chest. She looked up and saw Donovan glaring at her furiously. Her heart started beating furiously.
“Troy. What. Is. She. Doing. Here?” Donovan asked without looking away from Aubrey.
“I was just showing her around.” Troy said, raising his hands in the air defensively.
Aubrey didn’t avert her eyes either, she didn’t want to look at his body because she could already feel her body reacting to him. She was now feeling hotter than when she was in the kitchen. Donovan probably felt her reaction to his angry outburst because she could see his shoulders relaxing for a bit and his hands touched her forearms.
“Aubrey, please go back inside. Our training sessions are very rough and I wouldn’t like to see you get hurt by accident.” Aubrey wanted to answer but her mouth was dry, she just asserted to nod but her feet were glued on the floor. She was used to nakedness but Donovan’s body provoked something on her that she has never felt before. Donovan looked at her confused by her lack of reaction, realization suddenly hit him and a smirk crossed his features. He got closer to her and whispered to her ear, “Like what you see, love?” Aubrey gasped slightly and tried to look everywhere to avoid her face from getting redder.
“Right this way, Luna.” Troy interrupted them and Aubrey followed him back to the kitchen.
“See you later, my love.” Donovan shouted, making Aubrey to turn around one last time just to see his back as he walked back to the arena with a pair of jeans holding precariously from his hips.
