Im Ready

I looked over the vast lands of Claryce from my balcony. Up here the world seemed so small, everyone down below pacing around like fickle ants. Though they looked small from a distance one thing was for certain, they looked happy and that is something I had always longed to be. Her blue eyes fluttered in daydreams of what it would be like to live a normal life, even for just one day.

Before I could relish in my thoughts any longer someone knocked on my door. I swiftly lifted my nightgown and made my way to let the maids in.

'' Good morning Miss Alice" the dust-covered maid said as she bowed. I placed my hand on the maid's shoulder signaling her to stand.

''No need for formalities Girtha, you know you do not have to address me as if I am above you. We are equal and I shall treat you as such"

Dotting to my maid who always looked back with those sorrowful eyes.

''You know the Master would have my head if he heard me speak in such tones my lady!" Girtha smiled knowing I only meant well.

Sighing, I knew what was coming next.

Girtha quickly made her way to my bed and started to pat the satin sheets back into place.

"The Chancellor has requested your presence for day breaks first meal," Girtha said as she ruthlessly slapped down any loose particles from the bed before her, assuring she had once again completed her job with perfection. Girtha took pride in being a woman of few mistakes.

'' Unfortunately, I know the drill Girtha, why don't you read one of my books and I'll bathe myself, all right? Send someone to let Head Master Cornelius know I shall be down shortly."

I knew all too well that my day, like every other, was already scheduled before I even had a chance to breathe.

Such was the life of a princess destined to rule the packs someday. The only thing I could never gather was why I am the only she-wolf who had yet to develop powers.

"Not a problem, I already have the girls running your bath whilst you were resting my dear" Girtha sang back in that delighted tone bringing me back to the real world from my unfortunate thoughts, suggesting as usual, she would always be one step ahead of me.

Softly smiled I followed her towards the bathroom.

The room is plated with porcelain white tiles and gold-rimmed mirrors.

Looking at the claw-footed tub I quickly stripped down, Dipping just a toe, and checking the temperature of the water before fully submerging into the warm embrace it had to offer her. Knowing this would be the only time I have peace, I intended to enjoy it.

Drifting into a state of relaxation it came to an abrupt end, something was off... I could feel a piercing gaze. Quickly darting my eyes around the room scanning for anything that may be intruding on my daydreams.

I saw nothing and shrugged it off not knowing what it was I sensed. Stepping out of the tub I was met with Girtha and her ladies ready to push me along and get dressed for the day.

They pinned my brown locks up in a tightly fitted bun as they draped me in a simple yet elegant satin green gown.

"Slim but flexible, how is it you've gotten to know me so well" I chuckled motioning my thanks to Girtha.

Girtha gave me a tight hug as she gave me her response "All these years it's like I've had a daughter Alice, I know you better than I know myself".

Looking up into Girtha's soft brown eyes I couldn't help but melt into the woman's embrace.

"Well, that's it then, let them know I'm ready!"

With that, I was off toward the dining hall.
