“Really?” I asked, letting her words reassure me. It felt good to hear an outside source back up what Talon had been telling me all along.
“No lie,” she replied. “You’re it for him. He’s changed so much since you came along, in the best possible ways… and he knows it, too.”
Trina’s words lingered in the air, wrapping around me like a warm blanket. I leaned back against the couch, staring at the ceiling as if it held the answers. “I know you’re right,” I admitted softly. “But part of me just keeps waiting for the other shoe to drop. For something to go wrong. For him to realize I bring him more trouble than I’m worth. And another part of me is just waiting for him to get maimed or killed, either on a job, or especially trying to protect me.”
