When we were alone in the aisle, Talon gripped the back of my head, pulling me roughly into his chest. “You okay?” I nodded against him, my heart still pounding. “Yeah,” I murmured, though my voice sounded thin, even to me. He pressed a kiss to the top of my head, lingering there for a moment before pulling back slightly. His green eyes searched mine, intense and unyielding. “You don’t ever have to be scared when I’m with you,” he said, his voice low and firm. “That asshole’s nothing but noise. He knows better than to touch what’s mine.” I swallowed hard, his words both comforting and stirring something deeper inside me.
