The door to the office creaked open and Ethel stepped inside. “Looks like your ride’s here,” she said, her voice low. I stood, my legs trembling beneath me. “Thank you, Ethel, for everything.” Ethel gave me a knowing glance before stepping out, leaving me alone once again. When the door creaked open a second time, Talon stood there, his figure filling the frame, concern etched on his face.
