“We should stop here for the night,” Kaden said, pulling the reins of his horse. “I hoped we’ll be able to sleep at an inn, but who knew the only one on the way had burned down a year ago? It has been ages since I last went back.”
“It’s alright,” Adeline replied, but as Kaden looked at her she didn’t seem alright at all. She waved her hand to chase away a few bugs flying in the air, jumping at every sound that came from the trees or bushes around them. As if sensing his eyes, she wiped the scared look off her face and smiled. “It can’t be helped. It’s just one night.”
