The words hit Avery like a bolt of lightning.
She bit down so hard on the inside of her cheek that she could taste blood.
In the end, under Seraphina's triumphant gaze, she stared blankly at the camera, her expression numb.
"I, Avery Caldwell, deliberately offered myself for money," Avery said through gritted teeth, her hands trembling at her sides.
"I actively sought out those men to sleep with me. I had no sense of shame or dignity."
She lowered her head, humiliation burning across her face. "Everything Miss Seraphina said is true. I falsely accused her just now..." her voice trailed off as she clenched her fists.
More and more viewers flooded into the live stream, and harsh comments filled the entire screen.
A: [We felt so bad for you earlier, and it turns out you're just a shameless woman who played us for fools!]
B: [If you sold your body, just admit it... Stop pretending to be a victim! You wasted our sympathy!]
C: [And Seraphina is the one who's supposed to save your life? What an ungrateful wretch!"]
Donovan turned his head away, as if he could not bear to look.
His tone finally softened a little.
"I'll transfer the medical fees to your mother's bank account right away. Just stop causing trouble now."
He walked away to take a phone call, and Seraphina turned off the live stream, her true colors finally showing through.
She stroked her stomach in a victor's pose.
"Donovan knows you don't have long to live, so he's already transferred all his assets to me and our baby. Oh, right... I almost forgot to tell you. I'm pregnant. This little one will be the heir to the Caldwell fortune, and I'll be the next Mrs. Caldwell."
Avery shook her head, shocked and helpless.
That woman's voice grew more excited as she spoke.
"What right does a dying woman like you have to ask me for bone marrow? You'd better go to hell with your mother!"
As she said this, she picked up her phone and made a call right in front of Avery.
"Yes, cut off all access to that dying woman's bank accounts."
Avery's eyes widened in terror. If all the accounts were cut off, her mother would never wake up again!
Throwing all dignity aside, she fell to her knees and lowered her head again and again.
"I'll give you everything, just please..."
Before she could finish, the doctor walked out of the operating room, his face filled with regret.
"Mrs. Caldwell, please accept my condolences."
Avery stumbled backward in despair.
When she came to her senses, her hands were already wrapped around Seraphina's neck.
"Give my mother back to me!"
Donovan walked in just as this happened.
"Avery, have you lost your mind?!" He pushed her away without mercy, and blood started flowing from her nose again, unstoppable.
Seraphina cried, her face streaked with tears.
"Mrs. Caldwell found out I was pregnant. She was forcing me to have an abortion..."
When Donovan heard this, all trace of pity in his eyes disappeared.
His face dark with anger, he ordered his bodyguards.
"Do whatever it takes to make her admit she's wrong!"
With those words, he hurried to help Seraphina up, who was crying out in pain, and took her to find a doctor.
The bodyguards tied Avery up and dragged her into a car.
Their dirty hands roamed over her body.
"Boss said it's okay... We can do whatever we want! Never thought we'd get to have a taste of the noble Mrs. Caldwell!"
She struggled with all her strength, but suddenly, someone forced a pill into her mouth.
It felt like she had gone back to three years ago. Her nightmare was repeating itself.
With all hope gone, she closed her eyes.
Donovan, this time, it really was goodbye forever.
Donovan was sitting by Seraphina's bed, taking care of her, when the ward door burst open.
A bodyguard walked in holding a video of Avery admitting her "mistake", looking extremely proud.
"Mr. Caldwell, your wife finally agreed to admit she's wrong. Looks like the only way to deal with her is to use force!"
As soon as those words left his mouth, Donovan grabbed him by the collar, his veins popping out on his forehead.
"You son of b***h! You actually dared to touch my wife?!"
