God's Favourite Child - The Destined One

The Incident

It is now a day before Thanksgivings. Everyone was celebrating with hotpot. Everyone gathered here with two dishes per person as follows:

Rohit: Fish Curry, Fried Fish

Melanie: Wine, Ice Cream

Ramesh: Finger Chips, Corn Balls

Tina: Fried Rice, Chicken Curry

Joy & Jay: Chicken lolipop, Chicken Nuggets, Butter Chicken, Chicken and Spinach Puffs

Jo: Mix Vegetarian Curry, Fried Cottage Cheese Nuggets

James: Stir Fried Potato, Mashed Potato

Gary: Corn Dipped in Honey, Fried Baby Corn

Nina: Potato Chips, 5 Tier Cream Cake

Sam: Chocolate Fudge, Chocolate Dips

The Thanksgiving dinner went well with everyone enjoying a noisy, bustling dinner exchanging gifts and well wishes. Rohit and Melanie were flirting throughout the dinner. Looking at them Jay and Jo also got in a mood to let loose a bit. Gary looked at them with disdain while Nina felt her heart prick looking at how close Rohit and Melanie were. Soon it was time for cake and wine. Melanie brought in the wine while Nina was making her way to the team holding onto the cake. Her line of sight was blocked because of the humungous cake. After the dinner one plastic cap was misplaced and it had landed right before the door to the room. No one noticed it and Nina was on her way with the cake. When she entered the room, her feet landed on the cap causing her to topple over. Nina closed her eyes as she toppled and the cake came crashing down on the person in front of her who is none other than Melanie. Melanie screamed and pushed Nina away ran out of the room.

Rohit: Are you f*****g blind? Didn't you see a person standing in front of you. What are you eyes for decoration?

Tina: Are you an airhead and jay-walking in the office?

James: Stupid b***h.

Gary: ....

After reprimanding Nina everyone apart from Sam went to console Melanie.

Sam: "Are you hurt?" Taking Nina's hand "Ahhh!!! You have a bloody gnash. Just get up let me see if you are hurt anywhere else"

As Nina got up Sam noticed her bruised ankle and he cursed under his breath.

Sam: "Such a drama queen. She just got her dress ruined and she cries wolf but here you are with cuts and bruises and not a sound out of your mouth. Here let me apply some medicines. You just sit still."

Nina was looking at Sam with tears in her eyes. She's never had anyone to just stay back and see what had actually happened.

Melanie was huffing and puffing as her plan had failed yet again. Yes. Melanie's plan today was to seduce Rohit to start a relation with him. Hence, she waxed her body and wore sexy red lingerie. Who would know that Nina would get in her way like always. Yes. Melanie, had been planning to seduce Rohit from the very beginning. However, someone or the other always interrupted. Earlier, when Melanie wanted to spend time with Rohit, he was put in charge of mentoring Nina. Today, she planned to spike Rohit's drink and pretend to have s*x with him to entrap him. But Nina got in the way again. She decided "I have to get rid of Nina to get Rohit. But I can't do it alone. Need someone's help. Who can it be?" Soon she inwardly smiled looking at the person trying to comfort her, James. She's decided. She would use this all brawn and no brain i***t to do the dirty work. She now started howling to James "Did you see James Nina kept on targeting me as I'm better looking than her. I never provoked her but she purposely dropped the cake on me. Do you know why James?"

James: "Why?"

Melanie: "Because she thinks that I'm in love with Rohit but it is not true. You know even when we meet in the washroom or the elevator or the stairs alone she keeps saying that how much of a slut and prostitute I am for wearing such revealing and figure hugging clothes. Tell me James, is it my fault that I love to wear such clothes? Do I go and sit on Rohit's lap to seduce him? Do I spend after office hours with him? Is it my fault that she does not dress-up like me?"

James: "Don't dry Melanie. Don't cry. I will make sure that Nina does not trouble you anymore. So just stop crying okay."

Melanie: "Oh James. You are the only one who helps me when I need. I wouldn't know what to do without you. Thanks so much James."

She leans forward and kisses James on his cheeks. James blushes and makes up his mind to teach Nina a lesson she would not forget.

James comforted Melanie and offered to drop her home.

Rohit tried to intervene:

Melanie: "It's okay Rohit. You should spend your Thanksgiving with the person who humiliated me just to get your attention." And she left after saying this.

Rohit was dumbfounded with the new information. He returned home with his siblings. He was trying to sleep but was unable to do so because of Melanie's word. He made his way to Ramesh's room to see if he can speak with him. To his luck, Ramesh has just put Gina to bed and was about to sleep.

Rohit: "Ramesh, can I talk to you? Need your opinion and am unable to sleep."

Ramesh: "Okay. Let's go to your room. Tomorrow Gina has an early day at school."

Both moved to Rohit's room.

Rohit: "Today in the office, Melanie told me that Nina humiliated her because Nina has feelings for me. What do you think? Do you think Nina likes me?"

Ramesh: "Yes. She's in love with you since day 1."

Rohit: "What? How come I didn't know?"

Ramesh: "You would know if you had paid attention to your surroundings. Whenever we saw Nina, she always kept an eye on you like you are her favourite food. I once reached office earlier than usual and saw that Nina was sitting on you desk touching it like one would touch their lover and sniffing the deodorant you used. I wanted to discuss this with you but one day when you had fever and were sleeping on your desk I saw Nina putting a blanket on you and kept you comfortable throughout the day without paying attention to her work. That day most of the staff were on leave due to viral flu so they don't know. So I thought that she is a normal girl. But today's incident is a real eye-opener."

Rohit: "Next time good or bad, just tell me if you see such creepy girls around me. I will speak with Sam and ask him to change her mentor. I cannot be around this crazy girl anymore."

Ramesh: "Okay."

Rohit retired for the night. Next morning, he was in the office earlier than usual to look for the behavior Ramesh told him about. And yes. There is Nina at Rohit's desk arranging the things. However, Nina just realized that the chair was dirty so she moved towards the washroom. Rohit noticed that she wasn't walking but rather limping and her bandaged wrists. Nina then made her way to Rohit's chair, cleaned it and started walking towards her desk which is right next to Rohit's. Rohit was expecting her to sniff his deodorant bottle but was surprised that she didn't do it. Reason is simple. After Melanie's incident, Sam had a word with Nina.

Flashback start

Sam: "Nina, I know that you are in love with Rohit. But I cannot allow it."

Nina: "I know it Sam. I just love him and won't be taking things further. Its just that I know that I will be never match up to Melanie's standard which is Rohit's type. But the heart wants what the heart wants. I will not be making things awkward for anyone."

Sam: "There is a reason why I'm not allowing this relationship. I hope you understand. Its nothing personal."

Nina: "I understand Sam. I will never initiate any relationship with Rohit."

Nina was left heartbroken. But Sam is one figure which has never confused her. So after her talk with Sam, Nina made her way to the nearby church. Inside, in front of idol of Jesus Christ wondering what her fault was and why her love wasn't returned.

Flashback ends

Rohit: "Sam, I need to discuss something with you."

Sam: "Okay. What is it about?"

Rohit: "Can we speak in your office in private?"

Sam nods and they both head to Sam's office.

Sam: "So what is it that you want to discuss?"

Rohit: "Please change Nina's mentor. I have enough on my plate and am looking for a girl to settle with. But mentoring Nina takes up my entire energy. She is stupid, lame and an i***t. I need to explain things to her thrice to get her to understand once. I'm getting tired looking after her."

Sam: Looking meaningfully at Rohit, "Okay. Consider it done."

Rohit left Sam's office and Nina was summoned.

Sam: "Nina, I've called you here today to say that going forward, Rohit is no longer your mentor and for your work you need to contact Jo."

Nina: "If this is about yesterday, I promise you I won't cause you any trouble."

Sam: "This is not about yesterday. Rohit personally said he is fed-up of mentoring you and he needs a break."

Nina: "Oh!!!!"

Nina felt her heart breaking into a million pieces after hearing the reason. She went to the washroom to settle her feelings and when she felt that her face no longer displayed any sadness, she returned back to her seat.

Soon a month went by. James kept playing pranks on Nina. Sometimes, she was drenched with a bucket of cold water when visiting the washroom or had the ac turned on to the maximum with the ac ducts redirected to let air right above her seat or someone would occasionally pour coffee on her clothes. Everyone soon realized that she is now targeted by James. Seeing her sorry state elevated Melanie. Soon it was picnic time. Nina as usual avoided the picnic outing. Everyone was grouped and sitting separately.

Group 1: Sam, Ramesh, Tina, Gary

Group 2: James, Rohit, Melanie

Group 3: Jay, Jo, Joy

James: "Rohit, its a good thing you no longer are mentoring that bitch."

Rohit: "What do you mean?"

James: "That b***h kept threatening Melanie to stay away from you thinking that Melanie has a crush on you."

Hearing that Rohit took a large swig of alcohol.

Rohit: "Can you elaborate what exactly did she do?"

James: "She kept saying that Melanie is a slut and prostitute for wearing revealing and figure hugging clothes. I mean she has the audacity to ask Melanie to stay away from you."

Rohit to Melanie: "Why didn't you tell me about it?"

Melanie: "I though it was enough if I just ignored her but the Thanksgiving dinner was a real eye opener."

Rohit: "How dare she?"

James: "Why don't we bet: If you can sleep with her and dump her I will give you 5000 dollars. What say?"

Melanie: "Are you nuts? Why should Rohit sleep with her? Can't you get your friends to f**k her?"

James: "If I bring people not known to Nina, it would be a registered r**e case. No can do. No one in the office fits that caliber except Rohit. Wouldn't it be better to hear from the horses mouth that he doesn't love her?"

Melanie: A little skeptical "Rohit, you don't need to do this. Mine is just a minor incident."

Rohit: "If we don't do it, it would later escalate to a bigger problem. What if she does something to you?"

Melanie: "But still..."

Rohit: "No buts. I will make sure that she gets what she deserves."

Rohit then thought to himself: "Nina, you just wait and see. I will make you pay through your nose."
