Chapter 3

The night was chilly, the wind blowing gently around a castle-like mansion, the only brightly lit building on a quiet hill surrounded by the darkness of the forest. Only the sound of crows colored the place. The black crow with a special necklace around its neck flew around the window for a while before settling on the window ledge. The crow's red eyes gleamed at the woman in the red dress, lying helpless on the cold floor of the dimly lit room. The crow's chirping continued in the silence, as if it had a message to convey. The woman's eyelids twitched slowly. Luna groaned, feeling dizzy in her head. Her blurred vision blinked rapidly, struggling to recognize where she was. Luna took in the surroundings. The room felt so stuffy, the smell of dust combined with the scent of rusted metal creating a strange odor in the air that made her feel claustrophobic. Surrounded by piles of old and worn items, Luna lay helplessly, while her weak remaining strength kept forcing her to get up. Slowly, her memories of the previous events began to return. The series of events that made her end up like this hit her, making her harden her jaw. Martha's cold laughter broke his heart. This is how she repays me for what I've done all this time? How could she do this to me? She hissed. Luna suddenly laughed, a grim laugh that filled the room. Sold? Luna had never imagined she'd be reduced to this. The vile thing her aunt did this time made her hatred reach its peak. Luna had never been this angry before. And so angry, her tears unknowingly fell down her cheeks. "Damn crazy woman." She hissed. Luna was distracted when the sound of clattering steps from outside came into her hearing. Shortly after, the intricately carved door in the room slowly opened. Luna instantly turned her face. The silhouette of a tall, burly man appeared in the doorway, a black coat wrapped around his body, with two black uniformed guards behind him. Luna squinted, her eyes sharpening at the sight of the familiar man. "That guy again!" thought Luna, trying to get up from her position. "So, this is him," Jin muttered with a chuckle. He approached Luna and bowed slightly as he arrived in front of her. "What a pathetic woman..." Luna hardened her jaw, she snorted in disgust instantly. "What do you want to do? Don't expect me to keep quiet!" "You apparently still have the energy to babble." Jin laughed lowly. "But you won't survive, especially since the boss wants you to." "Bring her before Lord Lucian," he ordered. The two men behind him stepped forward toward Luna. Luna gritted her teeth and staggered backward. Luna had no idea what kind of place this was, and how much danger there was. What was she going to do? Luna's brain now seemed incapable of thinking. The two men grabbed her hands roughly. Luna struggled, but her weak strength was of no use to the burly men. "Let go of me!" cried Luna, filled with rage. Once again, Jin approached Luna. His finger lifted Luna's chin roughly, forcing her to look up. "Don't talk so much! Or things will be harder for you," he said before roughly releasing Luna's chin. He turned around afterward, the two men who gripped her arms tightly coercively pulling Luna to follow the men. Luna shuffled along, the men gripping her arms tightly. Every step was heavy as she was carried through the grand corridors with antiques in every corner. In her silence, not once did Luna stop to think about how she could run. If she didn't run now, Luna thought she wouldn't have a chance to run in the future. Luna swallowed when she noticed everyone nearby had a gun on their body. She bit her lip; it would be a lie not to be afraid. "Wait!" After a long moment of silence, Luna opened her voice. Jin who was two steps ahead of her suddenly stopped, turned to Luna, and gave her a sharp look. "I need to go to the restroom..." Luna was a little hesitant to say. The two men at Luna's side also stopped. Doubts appeared on each of their faces. "Secretary Jin, may we take this lady to the restroom?" Respectfully one of the men said. Pausing for a moment, Jin gave Luna a hard-to-read look before nodding. "Take her, and..." He trailed off for a moment as he glanced at Luna, "don't hesitate to shoot her in the leg if she tries to escape." Hearing that, Luna got goosebumps. The two guards turned and led her towards a nearby restroom. Luna secretly snorted, even near the restrooms there were surveillance cameras. Her eyes relentlessly scanned the surroundings, looking for the perfect time to run. "You'd better hurry," one of them said in a sharp voice. "Our master doesn't like to wait long." Luna quickly went into the restroom, rushing to lock it while trying to remain calm. Luna's smile came when she noticed a glass window there. Standing in the center of the toilet, her sharp gaze couldn't be drawn away from the window. A smile played on her lips as she stepped deftly towards the window, her hand trembling as she grazed the surface of the glass. "I'll end up here forever if I miss this opportunity," she hissed. Wasting no time, she used her sharp heels to strike the glass. Several tries to no avail, until moments later Luna's satisfied smile appeared, as the glass slowly cracked. Then the sound of shattering glass echoed in the room. Soon, a strong banging on the door could be heard from outside. The guards noticed her escape. Luna didn't care. Her hands deftly grabbed the edge of the window filled with sharp glass, and carried her body through the small window. Sharp glass splinters scratched several parts of her body, but Luna didn't care about the stinging pain. Luna couldn't help but panic as the guards began to break down the door. She gritted her teeth as she forced her body to crawl through the window. Her slender body made it easy for her to get out of the not so big window. She roughly pulled up her dress which was caught in some glass debris. The rips that adorned her dress she no longer cared about. In one breath, she brought her body down to the ground with a soft moan on her lips. She squinted at her surroundings, a large park with lights gracing her view as she began to straighten up. After that, his eyes widened as the three guards standing at the corner of the park focused their gaze on him. "Arrest him!" The voice of one of the guards made the other guards immediately run towards him. "Damn it!" Luna cursed. She didn't have time to think of any plans in her suddenly empty brain. Her instincts taking over, she ran in any direction to avoid the guards. With her weakened strength, she kept running. Her breathing was ragged as she felt the steps behind her getting closer. The garden was dotted with statues and trees. Nimbly, Luna jumped over bushes, hoping to find a place to hide from the growing number of guards. "Miss! Stop!" Dor! A gunshot startled Luna. She glared and looked back, before running even faster in panic. Damn... Were they really going to shoot her? Luna continued to run, heading towards the narrow hallway ahead that was lit up with antique candles. Luna felt like today was her most unlucky day. Just as she could no longer run, one guard after another emerged from the intersection of the hallway not far ahead of her, blocking the path in front of her. Panicked, Luna spun around and ran toward the only way out—a hallway that ended in a heavy double door. Without further thought, she rushed towards the two-leafed door, dragging her wrinkled and torn dress to enter. Once inside, she pressed her frail body against the door, regulating her labored breathing. Moments after her breathing returned to normal, she froze as she realized what place she had just entered. A large room in shades of black with classical carved details made the room look majestic and mysterious at the same time. Dim crystal chandeliers cast shadows of the large windows in the room, it was so quiet, only the sound of her breathing could be heard, and Luna felt a little safe there. She took her steps to the center of the room. Luna scanned the room, her eyes locking onto the window—her next hope for escape. Luna hurried to the window to make sure it was out there. "You think you can escape?" In that instant, Luna's face stiffened. Her body stiffened as the sharp, cold voice echoed in her ears. She slowly turned her body around, then her eyes widened to find a man standing right behind her. Luna took a step back, the man's gaze was enough to make her hair stand on end. The tall figure loomed over her, enough to eclipse her entirely. His handsome face was almost perfect, but there was a danger lurking in his blue eyes as they searched Luna. Unconsciously, Luna's pale lips trembled as she tried to open her voice.
