The silence in the court had grown heavier by the time we left the balcony.
Adrian walked beside me without speaking. His hand had dropped from the railing back on the balcony, but the space between us felt smaller than it should have. Every few steps his sleeve brushed mine, a brief, accidental touch that sent a quiet ripple through me. My wolf settled a little more each time… as if someone had finally turned down the volume on a noise I'd been living with for days, a constant low hum I hadn't even realized was exhausting me until it quieted.
