Mine

Chester POV I came to about five minutes later in a complete panic. My blocks were down and I had no idea where that pain came from. I pulled out my phone and called Brooke but there was no answer on her cell or at our house. I headed straight for the garage where my car was parked to get home. *Anna, tell me my dad didn’t see me.* FUCK f**k f**k. Anna isn’t responding. What is going on?  I jumped in my car and took off like a bat out of hell toward home. My mind racing with the possibilities, Brooke and Ash were in an accident somehow, or my dad found them, or he did some locator spell on me.. I just need Brooke and Ash to be ok. They are what matters, Brooke has been my whole world since the first time I saw her.. **** Sixteen years ago I was working in San Diego on the first big solar farm project in the area. I had been working on renewable energies, it had become my passion, helping humans help themselves. I was giving presentations to a group of school kids on science field trips a couple times a day. I didn’t mind, the kid’s questions were usually pretty entertaining and there was always the one kid who would ask questions most of my colleagues couldn't have come up with. The field trips all started to blend together and pass by quickly with me practically on auto pilot. Until the day Brooke’s class came in.. I walked into the little classroom we had set up where I could introduce myself and give the kids some basics and safety precautions to take when we went to look at the equipment and see it being installed, each group got to see at least one panel and one inverter get installed. As I walked through the doorway and began to speak, I was hit with the amazing smell of jasmine. I immediately scanned the room to find her, I knew it had to be my consort, no other human could give off such an overwhelming scent. When my eyes landed on a small 10 year old girl with her adorable chocolate curls that shined red when the light hit them, pulled back and tied with a big blue bow, I was shocked to say the least. But I also didn't feel the urge to do anything to her, just to keep her safe. When she looked up her big brown eyes met mine and her smile melted my heart. It didn’t matter how long it took, I would wait for her. Thankfully the pull was limited to protecting her. *** And protect her I did, not that I had to do much, her brothers were always watching over her and not letting anyone mess with her. When she turned 18 the pull toward her became stronger and stronger and quickly became wanting to feel her and have her scent right under my nose. But she had her high school sweetheart and I was against messing up her life. That was until I realized he was cheating on her. One Friday night he had a girl in the backseat of his car and I hacked his phone to send a message to Brooke to meet him. When she arrived she walked over to his car and got a clear shot of what was happening. I was so proud when she knocked on the glass and told him it was over before turning and striding away with her head held high. He called after her but she never turned around.  I “ran into” Brooke who was crying at a coffee shop down the street not wanting her family or friends to see her like this. I couldn't help myself and the next thing I knew I was asking her if she needed anyone to talk to.  *** “Sorry to bother you, but are you ok? Do you need someone to talk to?” “I’m ok..” She started as she looked up and met my eyes. “Do I know you?” The way she tilted her head to the side as she studied my face was adorable.  “I don’t think so, I'm new to the area. Are you sure I can’t get you some tea or something?” She looked to be having an inner monologue about accepting tea from total strangers but finally said “tea sounds lovely.” We sat and talked for a long time, she never mentioned the i***t ex or what had just happened. The conversation was so easy and I was intoxicated by the amazing jasmine smell permeating off of her.  I found my gaze going to the pulse in her neck a few times but I never felt an urge to drink from her and that was odd, that was the main purpose of a consort. Then again, I wasn't your average vampire, or even just a vampire. She clearly wasn’t just my consort.  “I am not sure why but I feel so comfortable around you.” Her words made my heart swell.  “I am really comfortable around you too.” “Maybe you could give me your number and we could hang out again sometime, you’re a great listener.” I was surprised that she asked first, I had been thinking of ways to bring it up. If I drank from her she would feel the connection too and I didn’t want it to happen that way. I wanted to see if this was more. If this human felt something for me. So I decided then and there that I would wait til I knew she loved me before I told her anything. I wanted her to have her normal and simple human life for as long as possible. *** Why had I waited so long to tell her the truth about me? She loved me. It wouldn't have changed anything. And now it might be too late. She could be dead for all I know. Or worse, my father could have her and thanks to me she would have absolutely no idea what was going on. I needed to get home now. I was two blocks away from turning down our street and every light was red. As I came to my turn I couldn’t wait and almost collided with someone turning from the other direction. I waved my apology as I sped down the street to my house.  “Brooke?! Baby?! Where are you?” I yelled as I came storming through the unlocked front door. At this point my heart was racing and about to pound out of my chest.  “Ash?! Buddy?! Are you here?”  As I rounded the corner into the kitchen I was completely taken back by what I saw. On the floor was a beautiful red wolf and a little blonde pup. I stood there, staring, not knowing what to do. Is it Brooke and Ash?! I walked over to where the large red wolf lay and could smell jasmine. Brooke. I leaned toward the pup and could smell, well, me. Ash. But how? Brooke is human and Ash is only a quarter vampire and a quarter witch. I needed answers and I knew the only place I could get them was Victor’s pack. I had to get them to Snow Wolf territory. Damon POV*** “What do you mean nothing is wrong with me? That was the most pain I have ever been in and you’re telling me what exactly? That it was all in my head?” I shouted at the pack doctor. “Forgive me Alpha, I can run everything again, but see for yourself, all the tests came back excellent.” I snatched all the test results from her hand and began sifting through all of the pages looking for something that didn’t add up. As always, I was in perfect health. So what the f**k? Just then a loud crash came ringing through the halls and I was through the doors and running to see what happened. As I came to the waiting room I saw a man on the ground on top of the magazine rack and chairs he knocked over, more interestingly, he was holding a wolf and a pup. I didn't know what to focus on first. “Son of a b***h! Why would you guys move the waiting area over here?” Came from the man. It was then I noticed the smoke in the room, it almost looked like shimmer smoke from a vampire, but it was almost blue instead of the usually creepy black. But how else would he have gotten in here? “Who the f**k are you and what are you doing on my land?!” I boomed. “You’re clearly the Alpha, can you get my wife and son some help? We aren’t wolves but I found them like this when I got home from work.” “Who, or what, are you?”  “My name is Chester, I knew your father, but I don’t have time for this. Please help them.” Chester? He couldn't be much older then me. It couldn't be the same kid from the photo, could it? He didn’t look or smell like a vampire. Maybe a warlock? But they lost their power.. “Doc, take the wolves to be examined while I have a chat with our guest.” I said over my shoulder, not breaking eye contact with the mysterious stranger. At first he didn’t want to let go of the wolves. “They are wolves, they are safe with us.” I assured him. He seemed to trust it as he handed both wolves to the doctor and nurses. “That's the thing though. They aren’t wolves. Or they weren't this morning. My wife is 26 and would have changed years ago and our son is only 6.” “You’re saying they both shifted for the first time today? That isn’t possible.” “Why do you think I am here?” “Let’s go somewhere more private so we can talk.” I led the stranger to a conference room closely followed by Jax. We took our seats but Chester kept his eyes on the door as if he could see through it to his wife. “Can you tell me who you are?” I asked. “Who cares who. What are you?” Jax added. “I told you, my name is Chester and I knew your father. Sorry about your chairs, last time I was here the place was a lot different.” “Ok, do you know Malachi?” Chester went white at the mention of that name. “What do you know of Malachi?” He said through gritted teeth. So he is the kid in the photo. Now I really needed to know what this guy was. “Not much, but I feel like you can help us with that. You really need to give me something here. You show up in my hospital seemingly out of thin air, with two wolves, and you’re not giving us any answers.” The man took a slow breath and looked me in the eye and then there was a knock at the door. The doctor slowly opened the door and poked her head in. “Alpha, I am so sorry to interrupt but the patients are stable and in human form again. If I could get some information it would be helpful.” “I need to see them.” Chester stated and he stood and began walking straight to their rooms as if he knew where they were. I didn’t stop him, I can only imagine his fear in finding his wife and son are somehow wolves. So I followed him, I was going to get my answers.  We went into the boys room first. He was asleep but I could tell he was a copy of his father. Chester went and kissed his forehead and began whispering to him. He was speaking so softly I could barely make any of it out but it sounded like he was just telling him how much he loved him and he was sorry this was happening to him.  “How old is your son sir?” The doctor asked. “He is 6 today.” “Do you know when this happened or how long he was unconscious?” “I can’t say for sure, I was at work, but I think it happened at 7:42AM. My wife texted me not long before and everything was ok.” “Strange, that's around the same time you had your attack Alpha.” The doctor continued to ask Chester medical history questions and I wondered if there was any connection between them and what happened to me. But I quickly shook it off, that would be too much of a coincidence. Soon the doctor was out of questions and began discussing the woman so we left the boy to rest and went across the hall.  As we walked through the door the most amazing jasmine scent filled my nose and Damien started jumping for joy and going wild in my head. We’ve found her! Our mate! Let me see her! I looked at Chester and saw him holding her hand and felt the growl escape me before I could stop it. His head snapped up and I saw the recognition in his intense gaze as it met mine and at the same time we both shouted, “MINE!”
