JADE
“Today is the day,” I said to myself as I walked quietly into the large ceremony hall.
The aroma filled the air; it was a blend of pine and sage smoke, used for cleansing and mating ceremonies. My heart was just filled with excitement and with fear as I observed the pack members who were all gathered in the hall.
The corridor was decorated with hanging white lilies and silver lanterns. The lilies represented new beginnings and purity. Tonight, the son of the Alpha, Brad, would make a decision, and I couldn’t wait for him to call me up.
I made sure I really looked excellent for today. I made my hair look all over, and my dress—a beautiful white one with lovely gold adornments—fit perfectly. As an omega, I wasn't accustomed to becoming the center of attention, but here, I made sure I could do my best to look good for my best day.
The ceremony began with the Beta stepping up to perform the old Pack Blessing. "In the light of the moon, blessed by the goddess and our ancestors, we gather to bless the special bond of mates. May this bond strengthen our pack and give our spirits peace."
We bent our heads, and it was silent as the Beta spoke in the corridor. We then lit the Unity Flame, a flame that represented the union of two hearts.
Suddenly Brad stepped into the room, and all attention was on him. He had a large black coat with tiny silver trimmings, which reflected how powerful and strong he felt.
With every step he made, he attracted all the attention, but I searched for a sign—a promise made silently—that my destiny would be altered that night. He walked confidently up to the podium; he literally walked past me and didn't even look in my direction or say a word.
Maybe he isn’t required to,” I said to myself, as I just reassured myself that everything was alright.
It was customary that when he got to the podium, he then pointed at his mate, and she joined him. But getting there, he started looking at the hall.
What was he looking for?
He then looked towards another direction for a long time. I was getting really anxious.
He paused for a second and smiled slightly, then spoke. "I have found my mate; I'd like to bring her out to you all. Trina, will you come up?"
“Who is Trina?” I asked myself in shock as I looked at the other end of the hall to see who that was.
I saw her walk out towards the podium. Her hair was brown, and the green dress shone in the light as she looked at me and gave an evil wink.
I felt as if I was choking on breath. How could Brad do this to me? The audience began to get excited.
As the Beta approached them with a chain made of silver to put over their clasped hands, I felt my heart sink deeper in more pain.
Brad smiled as he held the hand of Trina, and the Beta initiated the Bonding Vow.
With the entire pack, Brad and Trina are the future Alpha and Luna of our pack. May their relationship make all of us strong together and bring us fortune.
“Is this actually happening?” I asked myself because I still couldn't believe any of this.
I just stood watching as Brad smiled and let the Beta wrap the silver chain around his and Trina’s hands. My chest felt like it was being crushed, and the cheers and excitement of the crowd made it so much worse.
I didn’t think. I just moved.
“Brad!” I shouted from across the hall as everyone's attention turned on me.
All eyes turned to me as I stormed up to the podium. I was so angry that I could punch through the wall.
Brad turned and looked at me, surprise written all over my face. “Jade,” he said. “What are you doing?”
“What am I doing!” I said, my voice shaking but loud enough for everyone to hear. “What are you doing, Brad? How could you do this to me? After everything we’ve been through!”
The hallroom fell quiet. Trina was still a little bit shocked but kept her cool, her hand still clasped in Brad’s.
“You need to calm down, Jade,” Brad said. “This isn’t the time or place—”
“Don’t you dare tell me to calm down!” I shot back at him, stepping closer as my eyes were filled with rage. My voice was a bit shaky as tears started to well up in my eyes. “You told me I was the one, Brad. You said last night that you’d choose me. Were those all lies?”
Brad sighed, his hands on his head. He glanced at the crowd, then back at me. “Look, Jade, you’re making a scene. is a occasion. Let’s not ruin it.”
“An occasion?” I repeated, so annoyed at how nonchalant he was taking this.
“For whom, Brad? Certainly not for me! You led me on, made me believe that you would make me your mate, and now you’re standing here, smiling with her?” I pointed at Trina, who just shrugged like it was nothing to her.
“Jade, it’s not my fault that you felt I actually did want you,” Jade said nonchalantly. “You and I never would have been bonded.”
“Don’t you dare hide behind that bond nonsense!” I shouted. “You knew exactly what you were doing last night! You didn’t act like someone who was unsure about their mate. You looked me in the eyes and said, You wanted me!”
Brad was losing it as he walked towards me and grabbed my hand. “Jade, stop this. You’re embarrassing yourself.”
“No, Brad,” I said. “I’m exposing you for the liar you are!”
The crowd started to murmur, but I didn’t care. My world was falling apart, and I wasn’t about to let Brad go unless he gave me a reason why he lied to me.
Trina finally spoke up, her voice dripping with mock sweetness. “Maybe you should step back, poor Jade. Brad and I are mates. You can't come here and create a scene thinking anyone would want to give a lowlife like you attention.”
I turned to her with bloodshot eyes. “Stay out of this, Trina. You don’t get to lecture me about what’s ‘supposed to be.’ You knew he was with me, and you still—”
“Enough!” Brad’s voice cut me off. “Jade, listen to yourself. You’re acting like a child. You were never my mate, and you knew that. Whatever happened between us, it was… a mistake.”
“A mistake?” I whispered, the words stabbing through me like knives.
“Yes,” Brad said coldly. “You were just… there. Following me around, always so eager to please. It was. My friends dared me to see if I could… you know.”
What does he mean? “What?” I tried to breathe.
Brad looked away, but his voice was steady. “It was a dare, Jade. They said I couldn’t get the shy little omega to fall for me, to—” He hesitated, then added cruelly, “—to get you into bed.”
Gasps echoed around the room. My vision started to blur, but I forced myself to keep standing.
“You’re lying,” I said, though I didn’t believe it.
“I’m not,” he replied, his voice cold and detached. “You were never more than a game to me, Jade. And now, I’ve found my mate. That’s all that matters.”
My heart shattered. I stumbled back, shaking my head. “You… you used me? After everything… I trusted you, Brad!”
Brad smiled slightly, as if my pain amused him. “It’s not my fault you couldn’t see the truth. You’re just… you. An omega. Weak. What did you think was going to happen? That I’d reject my mate for you?
Tears just strolled down my face, but I stood tall. “I might be weak, Brad, but at least I have a heart. You’re nothing but a coward. You think being an alpha means treating people like dirt? You don’t deserve this pack, and you definitely don’t deserve me.”
The crowd was silent, their faces a mix of shock and pity. I could feel their eyes on me, judging, whispering. But I didn’t care anymore.
I turned to leave, but Trina’s voice stopped me.
“Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Jade,” she said with a laugh.
I just turned around, my anger boiling over. “You think you’ve won, Trina? Enjoy it while it lasts. Because when the goddess sees what kind of people you are, you’ll both pay for this.”
Without waiting for a reply, I stormed out of the hall in anger.
I hate myself!!!
