Eleanor
Eleanor's world was turning upside down. "No... that can't be true," she insisted, shaking her head. "They promised!"
"They lied," Genevieve's voice cut through Eleanor's heart like an icy knife. "They don't care about you; in fact, they barely remember that you exist. To be honest with you, at least now you know where your place is; on your knees scrubbing floors suits you perfectly."
Eleanor's tears fell softly as she realized her parents had been lying. Were they really going to take her back after five years?
"Please, do not do this.
Genevieve's smile deepened in satisfaction as her eyes twinkled with satisfaction. "Oh Eleanor! Now do your thing - fill my cup!" She lifted up her delicate teacup in anticipation.
Eleanor swallowed her tears as she moved slowly toward the table. Rosalind and Genevieve sat close, their laughter being an invisible source of pain in Eleanor's ears as they watched for any sign that Eleanor might falter, waiting to witness their sister break.
She would not give them that satisfaction.
She struggled to focus on being careful as she reached for the porcelain jug, yet just as she tilted it, Genevieve's hand brushed against hers with seemingly harmless gestures that seemed harmless at the time. But now something was wrong, and something terrible had happened: Genevieve had accidentally hit her hand!
The jug slipped, and tea spilled across the table into Rosalind's lap, cascading from it in torrents. A second later, Rosalind watched in horror as her teapot crashed to the floor, shattering into pieces and causing shockwaves to ripple throughout the room. Gasps filled up the room.
Eleanor's heart beat quickly. "No," she stammered.
Rosalind shot to her feet, angry. "Eleanor!" Rosalind was quick to rise from her seat. She pointed her finger directly at Eleanor before asking, indignantly, "Do you realize what this action has caused?" Rosalind was furious with Eleanor; Rosalind turned towards Eleanor in question with disbelief in her voice: "Do you realize what has been done to our family?" Rosalind demanded, as Rosalind shot into action, "Do you realize what has been done here?" Rosalind asked; Eleanor turned around, looking upon Rosalind with disbelief: "Do you realize what this action caused?" Rosalind demanded of Elinor, "Do you realize what has occurred?!" Rosalind exclaimed, "Do you realize what has occurred here?!" Rosalind confronted Elinor, furious: "Do you realize what this has caused?!" Rosalind shot onto her feet: Rosalind snapped, "Do you realize what has occurred here?" Rosalind asked, "Eleanor!" Rosalind asked, Do you realize what has transpired here?" Rosalind shot up from behind Rosalind. "Do you realize what's done?" Rosalind asked, "Do you know what you have done?" Rosalind, furious: "Do you know what your actions have done to you!" Rosalind: Do you realize what's done?" Before Rosalind could ask her, Do you realize what has transpired, Eleanor!?". Rosalind rose on Rosalind and asked,Do you realize what you have done now?" Rosalind had just asked,Do? Have any idea?" Rosalind asked, "You do now have any idea?" Rosalind demanded, "Do you have any ideas? "Do you have any idea about all the actions you have done?" clapped, furious. What?"! Have any idea about all this?" She demanded to ask: Do you have any idea what has been done in terms of Rosalind asking, No idea, of course they can only have done it for? Have any idea what has been done?! What have you done to him in such an evil in all this?" asked, Have any idea what has caused it?". What happened?" Rosalind immediately. Do you have? You nodded quickly then... Why have done all done? "Do you have any idea what exactly!"! Do you know?! When all this happened after all, done?! Do you have any idea where that is?? (s... If only!) ... "Won? Have any idea?!". Rosalind, who now?! ... Do you mind? "Rosalind?" asked? "Do?!"???. "The truth!?" They know about "B????! You ever before now done? (You?!)?? (Or will do you done?". " What have done"............?".......? "He/he/if? When are we now? (/......? "Rose, then?"Have you now done?" (or even knows where your...?" and (or!?). Who could possibly have done this??!?! "Have you already...?) Do you understand...? "...?") done any idea you gone by now or will get this week as they have they have you given to be???)!?) done??? ".....Where have you been????) (? *?...
"I... didn't mean to!" Eleanor's voice faltered as she bent down with both hands, desperately searching for pieces. "She pushed me--"
Genevieve quickly interrupted, shaking her head. "Rosalind was not paying attention and then just--tripped. This is disgraceful.
Eleanor stood up suddenly, eyes flashing rage in her eyes. "That is not true!" Eleanor lashed out in anger at Genevieve and replied that they had caused Eleanor to drop her bag of papers.
Genevieve gasped in surprise. "Why would I ever do such a thing?" She looked to Rosalind with false concern in her eyes and stated her opinion firmly: "Maybe it's time we all acknowledged Eleanor doesn't belong here anymore.
Eleanor's voice cracked with exasperation as she shouted out, "Liar!" Eleanor lashed out angrily.
Rosalind was infuriated that Rosalind had broken an heirloom tea set belonging to her family's history—something priceless that they had held onto for generations—by breaking it. "You have caused irreparable harm!" Rosalind shouted angrily at her opponent.
Eleanor apologized profusely. "I didn't mean for it to happen!" Eleanor begged. "It wasn't my fault!"
Rosalind's hand slapped hard against the wall, sending shockwaves through the chamber.
Eleanor's cheek was searing with pain as her head suddenly snapped to one side.
Rosalind bellowed angrily. "I gave you the benefit of the doubt because we used to be friends, but now?" Rosalind replied in her disgruntled tone, spittle flying through her voice as she promised that they'd pay for their mistakes and disregard.
Eleanor's vision blurred with tears. "Rosalind, please—" Eleanor looked up in concern as Rosalind began crying again.
Rosalind spoke out loudly and authoritatively with pride: "Royal guards!" Rosalind exclaimed with pride.
The doors flew open with an almighty crash, boots clattering loudly against the marble floor.
Rosalind ordered Rosalind to bring Rosalie outside. Rosalind wanted the entire royal court to witness what would happen when someone broke royal protocol and did something that overstepped their boundaries. "Take her outside," Rosalind insisted, and allow everyone at court to see what will befall any who cross boundaries.
Eleanor begged, but her struggles were met with firm grips from guards who held on tightly. "No!" Eleanor pleaded, but was taken violently into custody by guards.
They dragged her through corridors and onto an open courtyard. Sharp gravel bit into her knees when they forced her down; their weight kept her there as a crowd gathered, whispering and laughing in disapproval or delight.
When she refused, they both became violently defensive, striking out with fists against each other in unison—one to her ribs, another on her back.
An unseen force connected with her stomach and quickly left her gasping for air. A boot struck, taking all the breath from her lungs.
Ashen's soothing voice echoed through her mind: "Don't worry, Eleanor; we can get through this together. Stay strong."
But how could she possibly believe this?
Another strike, and her vision blurred, and her body trembled violently.
There was then the sharp, clear sound of a trumpet.
Everything came to a halt as a voice boomed across the courtyard: "The High King has returned!"
Eleanor's rapid breathing became the only sound for an instantaneous respite from her panicked crowd.
Silence falls.
