Chapter 5

408 Words
While my dad and I are working on hanging the curtains in Alyssa's room, I can't seem to focus. It's like my mind is consumed by thoughts of Rueben. Everything about him just gets under my skin - his smug smile, his arrogant attitude. It's frustrating because even though I don't like him, I can't stop thinking about him. .It's like my mind has a mind of its own, constantly replaying our interaction. It's maddening because I know deep down that I shouldn't feel this way. I should be able to easily dismiss him from my thoughts and move on with my life. Yet, there's something about him that keeps pulling me back in. Maybe it's the challenge of trying to understand him or the allure of the unknown. Once we're done with the curtains, I make a beeline for my room. Thankfully, my mom already placed my boxes in here. I eagerly start unpacking and the first item I grab is a picture frame from when I was little, back in the first house I lived in. the frame used to be all fancy with gold accents, but now it looks kind of worn out. The wood has a deep brown color, and you can see some cool designs carved into it. There are cracks and stuff on the edges, like it's been through a lot. It's got some dust in the little grooves, giving it a sort of hazy look. Even though it's not perfect anymore, it still has this nostalgic charm that makes you wonder about all the memories it holds. It's like a reminder that things can still be beautiful even as they get older. In the photo, the family stands in front of a plain house, devoid of any decorations. The atmosphere feels heavy, with darker tones and shadows adding to the somber mood. The dad, with his short brown hair and brown eyes, looks burdened, his gaze cast downward. The mom, with wavy black hair and brown eyes, holds the little one tightly, her protective instincts shining through. The toddler, with short brown hair and almost black eyes, adds an innocent touch to the scene. The older girl, who is absolutely stunning with her light brown hair and eyes, appears visibly anxious. It's as if they're all going through something really tough, and their expressions reflect that. The overall effect is a powerful portrayal of the complex emotions experienced in difficult times.
