Present day
As i gaze at the picture, a wave of remorse and sadness washes over me. i can't help but feel the heaviness of the emotions captured in the image. i finally get up and grab a hammer and nails. i start to hang the picture on the wall. With one last look, i stare at the picture, a mix of sadness but acceptance shining over me. i know that this moment will always be a part of my story.
My daydream is interrupted by Maliene telling me that dinner is ready. I take Alyssa and we both go to the dining room table. My mom finished the kitchen and dining room. Her decorating skills never fail to impress. The room is bathed in a warm, golden glow from the soft candlelight. The table is adorned with a beautiful tablecloth in rich autumn hues, perhaps a deep burgundy or a luxurious burnt orange. The centerpiece is an exquisite arrangement of dried flowers, delicate branches, and autumn leaves, all carefully arranged in a tall, slender vase. The room is filled with the soft scent of cinnamon and vanilla, adding to the cozy atmosphere.
The walls are adorned with elegant artwork depicting the beauty of the fall season, showcasing vibrant landscapes and falling leaves. The chairs are draped with plush, velvet covers in earthy tones, providing an extra touch of elegance and comfort. It's a truly enchanting sight, combining the warmth and coziness of fall with a touch of sophistication.
We sat down, each person always sat in the same spot. My dad at one end, and my mom at the other. Maliene sits beside me. And Alyssa sits across from Maliene, beside my mom. There are dishes on the table. Meatloaf, mashed potatoes with gravy, and mac and cheese with corn. My favorite meal. What kind of human would dislike it? It has the perfect amount of salt and cheese.
While we are eating, my dad tells Maliene and I that we start at our new high school tomorrow. He says it is called “Maplewood School” That sounds nice, Maliene rolls her eyes. She hates moving schools considering she makes friends easier than I do, so she has to leave them behind each move. She knows we have to move because of Dad's job. He's a lawyer, his clients are sometimes in another state and mom doesn't want him gone that much and for months sometimes years at a time so we just rent a house until his case is finished.
When the case is finished we stay at the house we rent for a little while until he gets another case. The rest of dinner is my mom making small talk asking how we all like the house and our rooms.
After dinner, I take my plate to the sink and head back to my room. When I walk in, my bed is made and Nymus is sitting right below my pillow. I reach for the white fluff on the inside of his ears. forgot how soft they were. I get under the blankets and fall asleep.
