A REVELATION OF LIFE

HAILEY The steady beep of monitors and the antiseptic smell of the pack's hospital were the first to penetrate as I stirred out of the haze of unconsciousness. My head throbbed dully, but it was the sensation of something deep, intimate, and utterly unfamiliar that summoned my consciousness. "Hailey?" Ryan's voice penetrated the haze. His hand was warm, mine held in his firm clasp. I blinked, clearing my eyes to discover his face creased with worry. His green eyes were locked on mine, searching. "Ryan," I croaked, my throat dry. "What. what happened?" "You lost it," he whispered, his thumb tracing the backs of my knuckles. "In the mess hall. The pack doctor had to sedate you when you wouldn't settle down." "Settle down? "You were suffering," Ryan told me, his jaw tightening. "No one knew why. I didn't know what to do." Memories flooded back—the poisoned food, the shield I'd put up around Alexia, the strange pull in my chest that I hadn't recognized then. "I don't feel any pain now," I said to him, frowning. Ryan's mouth opened to answer, but a knock at the door interrupted him. The pack doctor, a welcoming-appearing woman named Dr. Maisie, entered with a clipboard. Her expression was calm but held a subdued solemnity that made my stomach twist. "Hailey," she began, her tone professional yet kind, "I need to ask you a few questions. Have you been experiencing any unusual symptoms lately? Fatigue, nausea, mood swings? I blinked at her, taken by surprise. "I mean. Yes, but I thought it was just stress. There's been a lot happening." Dr Maisie nodded sympathetically. "That's understandable. But according to the results of the tests we ran, there's another explanation." She paused briefly, then smiled. "Congratulations, Luna. You're pregnant." Shock and Joy The words hung in the air, heavy and unreal. "Pregnant?" I repeated my voice barely above a whisper. Dr. Maisie's smile widened. "Yes. And not with one pup—you're having triplets." Triplets. The room reeled, and Ryan's grip on my hand intensified. "Triplets?" he rasped. Dr Maisie chuckled. "Yes. And because they're werewolf babies, they'll develop quicker than human pregnancies. You're already four weeks pregnant, and we're anticipating you'll give birth in four months." My hand moved involuntarily to my belly, where a faint glow of warmth pulsed beneath my palm. It wasn't just me anymore. Three lives were growing within me—tiny, vulnerable, but indisputably strong. "How. how did I not know?" I breathed. Dr Maisie's expression softened. "It's not uncommon, especially with a first pregnancy. Your body's been through a lot lately. The symptoms are easy to overlook." Ryan was still beside me, his gaze on my stomach. Slowly, he reached out, his hand over mine. His warmth seeped into me, calming me as my mind spun. "Are they. are they okay?" I breathed. They're healthy," Dr. Maisie reassured me. "Strong heartbeats, steady growth. But you'll need to take it easy. No more shielding spells or wearing yourself out. Your body needs to focus on them now." A CONVERSATION WITH AMENIA Later that night, after Ryan reluctantly left my side to attend to pack business, I closed my eyes and reached out to Amenià. "Why didn't you tell me?" I demanded, my tone sharper than I intended. I didn't know," she said, feeling I couldn't quite place in her voice. "Not at first. Your magic. It's different. It kept the truth hidden even from me." "That can't be," I said. "It does," she said gently. "You are not just a werewolf, Hailey. The light you called to heal Alexia, the shield you raised—it's beyond wolf magic. It's something ancient, something related to who you are. And maybe, to who your children are going to be." The significance of what she was saying washed over me. My babies—triplets—were not going to be typical pups. "What does that mean for them?" I breathed. "I don't know yet," Amenià admitted. "But I promise you this: I will do everything I can to protect them." THE PACK'S CELEBRATION The news spread like wildfire through the pack. The hospital was teeming with pack members by morning, all of them fighting to offer their congratulations. Logan and Flora brought Alexia, who threw herself into my arms with the reckless enthusiasm of a child who had not yet learned the value of caution. "You're going to have pups!" she exclaimed, her big eyes sparkling with excitement. "Yes," I said, laughing despite myself. "Three of them." The pack applauded, the room ringing with the clapping and joyful howls. I couldn't help but smile, even as I was exhausted. For the first time in weeks, there was no fear, no tension—only hope and joy. RYAN'S REVELATION That night, Ryan stayed by my side, his hand never once relinquishing mine. We talked about names, the future, and the small lives growing within me. But just as I was settling in, Isaiah entered the room, his expression serious. "There's something you need to know," he said, his voice low. "What is it?" Ryan asked, his voice already on the defensive. The previous news he had was having us stumbling so, of course, Ryan worries. I pressed his hand reassuringly, and he exhaled. "Your children aren't normal; they will be even more powerful than their mother, but when they're older, they'll have one mate, and they will do the unexpected and transform the whole supernatural world. There is still so much to be, yet danger is lurking everywhere. They'd do the unimaginable to take the life of Luna and the babies; beware, protect them. Their mate already is, but in time you will see more clearly, my king." He bows and leaves us in utter silence. The room was cold, with all the unspoken truths lingering in the air. Ryan looked at me, and his eyes were a mix of love, guilt, and terror. "Hailey, I swear I will keep you and our pups safe. No matter what it takes." I was going to respond when there was a knock on the door. It creaked open, and someone stood in the darkness. You will not have long to wait to test that promise," the figure responded, his voice dripping with malice. "The games have begun already."
