CHAPTER SIX
THE LEGACIES
The Vanguard students lined up, waiting patiently for their teacher.
Since the IQ class, Crystal and Helen had become much closer. They laughed together and joked around as they waited.
After the IQ class, Helen had already informed Crystal about some of the school's rules and history.
For one thing, the students were now in their second year.
They had only one more year before the five winners would be chosen.
Crystal listened carefully as Helen continued explaining.
“Another thing you should know is that Blackwood has two sons from different mothers.”
Crystal looked at her.
“Two sons?”
“Yes. Mr. Blackwood had Alexander with his maid. At that time, Kevin's mother couldn't have children.”
Helen lowered her voice.
“So, after some years, Kevin was born. But the two brothers have never really been nice to each other.”
Crystal raised an eyebrow.
“They're always at each other's throats.”
Crystal glanced around.
“Sounds peaceful.”
Helen laughed.
“The Ashford family is also important. That's my family. Lexi is my sister.”
Crystal nodded.
“Our mother went on a mission years ago, and since then, neither of us has seen her.”
Helen's voice became quieter.
Crystal didn't interrupt.
“The Blackwood and Ashford families have one thing in common.”
“They are both red-eyed families.”
Crystal remembered what she had been told earlier.
Red eyes meant a higher rank and powerful abilities.
“But not the parents,” Helen continued. “The special powers appeared in their children.”
Crystal became interested.
“What kind of powers?”
Helen smiled.
“Kevin can make his drawings come to life.”
Crystal's eyes widened.
“Seriously?”
“Yes.”
Helen continued counting on her fingers.
“Lexi has the strength of billions of men.”
Crystal's mouth dropped open slightly.
“Billions?”
Helen nodded.
“Helen has an invisible power.”
Crystal looked at her.
“You?”
Helen smiled mysteriously.
“And Alexander…”
She paused.
“What about him?”
“Mind powers. Or something like that.”
Crystal frowned.
“Mind powers?”
Helen nodded.
“He doesn't talk to anybody,” she informed Crystal with a smile.
“Meaning nobody talks to him,” Crystal replied.
“Actually, people like him, especially girls. But he doesn't interact with them like that.”
Helen lowered her voice.
“According to some rumors, he has mind powers.”
Crystal glanced toward Alexander.
So that's why he's so smart?
She quickly looked away before anyone could notice her staring.
---
Soon, the students changed into their sportswear for Criminastics.
The boys wore red sportswear.
The girls wore black.
Crystal looked around.
“Your sister isn't here yet?”
She glanced around the training area.
Neither Lexi nor the two Blackwood brothers were there.
“They can come anytime they want,” Helen replied.
“They are legacies.”
Crystal looked at her.
“Legacies? Aren't you one?”
Helen's expression changed slightly.
“Lexi is the oldest. And, as usual, I'm not fit for all this.”
Crystal didn't notice the slight hesitation in her voice.
Helen touched her black hair, gently untangling a knot.
“We are roommates,” Crystal suddenly said.
She hadn't even realized she had said it aloud.
“Yes, we are.”
Helen smiled.
“I like it. But the legacies stay in separate rooms. They don't share rooms like we do.”
She paused.
“Especially Alexander. He hates having people around him.”
Crystal smiled mischievously.
“You seem to know Alexander quite well.”
Helen's cheeks immediately turned red.
Crystal noticed.
“Do you have a crush on him?”
“No!” Helen answered far too quickly.
Crystal laughed.
“Alright. Anything you say.”
The two girls continued talking.
They were so busy with their conversation that they didn't notice when the legacies finally walked into the training area.
A few seconds later, a voice interrupted them.
“Hello, everyone.”
Crystal turned around.
The Criminastics teacher had entered.
Crystal immediately recognized her.
It was the blonde-haired teacher who had taken her to the vice principal's office earlier.
Miss Sara.
Crystal stared at her.
For some reason, she had a feeling this class was going to be much harder than IQ.
