CHAPTER THIRTEEN
KEVIN AND LEXI
Kevin and Lexi stared at each other as they placed their fingers on the iPad.
“Since Kevin and Lexi are in the same batch, you can start,” Mr. David informed them.
“Ladies first,” Kevin said, leaning back in his chair.
Neither of them looked happy about the pairing.
They clearly didn't want to face each other.
Lexi wished she had been paired with Alexander. At least then, she could use the opportunity to get closer to him and strengthen their connection.
But now, Alexander had been paired with the new girl.
Lexi looked at Kevin.
“Your dark secret is…”
She paused deliberately.
Kevin's heart began to race.
“There was a time when you were little,” Lexi continued. “You drew a painting, but you hated it. Your father, however, was extremely proud of the painting and wanted to show it to the world.”
Kevin's expression slowly changed.
“You ruined the painting by drawing lines all over it,” Lexi continued. “Then you gave it to Alexander and told him that you had made it for him.”
The room became silent.
“Alexander believed you,” Lexi said. “He thought you were the best little brother he could ever have. What he didn't know was that you had already lied to your father and told him Alexander was the one who ruined the painting.”
Lexi smiled when the iPad remained silent.
“Your father punished Alexander with thirty lashes of the whip.”
Crystal's eyes widened.
Lexi leaned closer to Kevin.
“And you didn't even feel sorry for him. You watched him take the punishment while keeping the truth to yourself.”
“No. That's not true,” Kevin lied.
Lexi raised an eyebrow.
“Oh, really? Then explain why the iPad isn't ringing.”
Kevin froze.
His mouth opened, but no words came out.
“I—I…”
He stammered.
Lexi smiled triumphantly.
“Well then, I win.”
She pushed her chair back and stood.
“Miss Lexi, sit down,” Mr. David said. “You haven't finished yet. You have revealed his secret, but now it's Kevin's turn.”
“What?!” Lexi exclaimed. “But his secret is dark!”
“Yes, it is,” Mr. David replied calmly. “But he was also paired with you. And, Mr. Kevin, what you did to your brother was not a nice thing to do.”
“Stepbrother,” Kevin corrected coldly.
Outside the glass box, the students watched the conversation with growing interest.
Crystal could practically feel the tension in the room.
She turned toward Alexander.
He was sitting quietly with his usual emotionless poker face.
Not a single expression crossed his face.
Crystal couldn't help feeling sorry for him.
Poor Alexander.
He must have suffered a lot because of his stepbrother.
Inside the glass box, Kevin looked at Lexi.
“Sit down, Lexi,” he said with a smirk. “Or are you afraid I might have something on you?”
“Yeah, right.”
Lexi rolled her eyes before sitting down.
Kevin placed his finger firmly on the iPad.
“Your name isn't Alexandra.”
Lexi's smile disappeared.
Kevin leaned forward.
“Your real name is Sandra.”
The students outside gasped.
“But because of your obsession with Alexander, you forced your father to change your name just for a boy.”
Lexi's eyes widened.
Kevin smirked.
The room erupted in whispers.
Crystal quickly turned toward Helen and whispered,
“This test is sweeter than I thought.”
Helen tried not to laugh.
But Crystal wasn't laughing.
She was watching Lexi carefully.
For the first time since the test had started, Lexi looked genuinely nervous.
And Crystal had a feeling Kevin wasn't finished yet.
